Cosworth project

Post by mattie170 »

Hi all,

I have been wanting to strip all the suspension and get it powder coated/plated on my car for a while but couldn't be bothered to do it out in the cold. End of last year we converted our climate controlled clean room into a garage. We have still kept part of it for work purposes but the majority is now for cars.

With this room it's now warm enough for me to do the work to the car. So with 11 hour days not being quite enough I have started the job of stripping it. I started stripping the rear end down of all suspension components, subframe, diff, fuel tank and bumper. I was thinking I would find aload of rust but I was shocked by how little there was. All it needs is a quick rub down and underseal. The front end is in good condition as I did that couple of years ago but I've still pulled all the suspension components out to get them powder coated or plated.

Next job is to steam clean/hot pressure wash all the parts to get the worst of the dirt/waxoil off before they get sent to be grit blasted and coated. I'm also thinking of taking the side skirts off to clean behind them and check the sills. The body work on the car is near perfect so that doesn't need any work what so ever.

I've got a long list of parts to buy like bushes all round, new brake lines(want to find out if i can get stainless steel really), new wheel bearings all round, new front abs sensors as they are stuck in the hubs, new rear shocks, maybe new front ones but will decide when I look closer at them. There are loads more bits and pieces I've got to buy but will come to it all when I start ordering.

I will post some pictures tomorrow of the car so far as its now time to go out on the beer!!!

Yeah the room is pretty nice its a about 21 degrees c all the time but the benifit for the cars is it has drawn every bit of moisture out of them. At the moment the beer is alot more promising for both me and Rob

Sounds just like my unit. Freezing all of the time and the cars are perpetually damp :)

Only kidding but your facilities sound much better than the ones that I am used to. Bastard :D
