russ979 wrote:The problem with the scappage (briefly) is that it has thrown the used car market into total chaos. Because of the shortfall there is now in the cheaper end of the market ( ie; i`m now paying the same money for a 52 plate clio that i was 2 years ago but am not enjoying equal stronger residuals) There are now so few descent cheaper small cars ( under 2.5k retail) that we traders are fighting for the same few scraps that are left over while watching good cars get scrapped that would have kepted the market feed:banghead:....there is alot more to it than that, but my one finger typing means i would be here all night trying to explain!:D
Quick example.. i was going to buy back a customers 51 reg clio a couple of weeks ago, ( the car had problems but i knew what they were) but they decided to use scrappage instead- Yes on an 8 year old 51 reg!!!
Am i bitter..............................yes!:D

Sorry Russ. You realise it was the Escort and not the rx that went for scrappage?

The Escort was a '98 S plate. Front brake discs & pads were approaching needing replacing, There was rust in the o/s pax door and rear wheel arch, down to poor repair when a 'friend' borrowed the car & clipped the o/s. Engine wanted a good service, the original 97K clutch has always needed replacing imo. No slip but a peculiar bite point. 2 x front tyres min. and due an MOT mid March. Worth

It's a toss up between chasing you or Mike B round the cones. The M3 route is very tempting but I don't have Mike's commitment (or funding) to kick Porsche arse. 4WD on the other hand................

Russ in an RA, TK in a monster Nissan, Mikey S in his type R, Harry, John Start, etc., etc.,

Or stick with the Dax and predict the weather. :)

Gerry that Spec C is lovely!! STill too much cash I reckon...

On the Evo thing, if your keen it's better to spend out on a 5 rather than get a 4, lots of things better about the 5 onwards over a 4. Engine for one, suspension geometery, bigger brakes...etc etc etc. Definetly worth the extra cash

That's a nice one Russ.

Spec C is possibly 18K I've seen similar for that, but it is a nice one. He took me for a quick blatt and the way it takes roundabouts is stunning with the auto DCCD doing the business.

Gerry,

It was pleasure to be giving you a hand to get rid of the RX8. All in all i feel a tow start was a fitting end to what was in essence a huge pain in the brain.

Anyway, stop faffing about now and get yourself another worthy steed.....

Thanks for your suggestions Francis but I really don't fancy another Subaru. It'll never match the last one without either costing a small fortune to buy or spending one to mod.

Besides, you should be encouraging me to get something different if only to expand your mapping portfolio :D
