Great looking car and really sorry to hear about your accident.

I too had a friend get killed on a bike, was a wet evening, driving down a dead straight road, slipped on some leaves and went underneath a car. Not nice.

Glad to see you bounced back and got something sporty !!!

I looked at sensible options - and they all sucked! Hence the sx!

Dancing girls...Hmm, nice idea but it might be a bit too much like Maxpower/fast car meets then.

MEGA BUMP!

Well nearly 18 months on I thought it was time I updated my project thread

After serious worries about using my car on track, and then some serious fun on track, its time make the SX a track (and weekend) car only :lol:

I'm in the process of getting a new daily driver which means I can cage the SX and do all the little things I didn't want to do to my road car.

The main turning point was poly bushes, they have increased the feel and feedback from the car imensely, but they make it a right mare on bumpy roads :roll:

The Plans:

Well obviously I'm fitting a 4 point cage (6 point would make the car inaccesable to me) and more supportive seats. I'm fitting wider wheels - once I get the arches flared to accomodate them, and from there I don't know. I'm not making the car track only, as I don't want to trailer it to events, and I want to use it for weekends, meets, etc.. I'm not intending any power mods right now, to be fair, the car is pretty quick and I have a lot more to learn on track before I do anything mental. I want to concentrate on making it as stiff as possible (the car) and learning to drive faster (without spinning).

Then make sure you're at snetterton for the sept trackday, don't expect me to as quick as the TA boys though! The car is limited by a couple of factors - the autobox and the driver!!

Cheers for that, they're getting cheap now TBH. When I consider what I have spent on the car, and what modified examples go for it makes me cringe. But if you're serious about getting one check out the SXOC for sale boards - I don't think they could drag you away from your love affair with Fords though.:thumb:


Now I've got to go and prep the car for its last big road trip, We're going on holiday in the Alps in the SX so 1500 miles @ 20-25MPG. :roll:

Big Bump!

I've just realised I haven't updated this for over a year.

I got my arches rolled at Andy916's house last year and fitted the wide ultralites, along with the nearly dead Falken tyres they came with. The look was completely transformed from the old 7.5" wide BKs.



I was lucky enough to win a DB Power big brake kit in the SXOC xmas draw so these were promptly fitted along with some oversized Ferodo pads.

I fitted the roll cage and fabricated a camera mount (although this needs modifying for my new camera as it sits on the piss).

After doing the Bigpower day at snett the car felt much more planted and controllable but the tyres still needed changing. I had some 225 r888s for the front but no rears, thankfully duncan had some part worn 255s of his TA car that I procurred and swiftly had fitted.

My next trackday was Marham in October and the car was imediatley more driveable with huge levels of mechanical grip, the handling was more progresive and as my confidence grew I was able to chuck it into corners at silly speeds. Brakes are also very good now, I run standard calipers on 345mm discs with decent pads, fluid, and lines, along with a BMC stopper and I get very little brake fade even with extremely aggressive use. Quite impressive when you realise it's still an auto:p

I bought Kevs old Rotas as a spare set of wheels, along with some more R888s so now I can go to a track day and not worry about killing my tyres before I get home.



Since then I've done Cadwell and Snetterton in November, and Oulton in December. The turbo gaskets went at Snett (the best place as at least I didn't have far to get it home) and Gary and the guys got it sorted super quick so it was ready for Oulton the next week.



I then had a misfire problem which turned out to be a melted spark plug!! At least it was a cheap and easy fix.

The car is now at the point where all I want to do is maintain it, and get the extra few seconds a lap from better driving.

Cracking update Ray, the whole car has moved on leaps and bounds I'm glad I remembered to mention Kev's wheels to you. The luxury of having a spare set is a bit of a life saver
