This is the one part of this new project that has been giving us the most grief. Neither of us has any experience of working with fibreglass, a slight set back. The wide arch body kit that we are using needs to be modified to fit a sierra and this has caused much discussion between me and Bart:cuss:

After much discussion the work has finally begun:boxing_smiley:
The kit as we bought it.

Alan (Bart) decided to start with one of the front wing pieces, and please bear in mind that this is the first time he has ever done anything like this before. Making moulds with fibreglass, to make the kit fit.

That was how far he had got as of last saturday. He turned up today and this is what it looks like now. Still got a lot of work to be done to it but the progress is good:D

I know I need to get out more, but nice to see a GT!
Those wide arches are going to look really cool when finished.

Thanks gents:). The reason for the kit is simple we want to run a wider track approx. 40mm at the front and 50mm at the rear. It will also allow us to use wider tyres going from 205 to 225.

Nice work!:coolgleamA: A little tip if i may? If you are doing lot of filler/fibreglass work, then get your hands on some "re-face". Its a wonderful polyester spray filler. needs to be applied through a 2mm nozzel spray gun and goes on like artex, but does not sink back like even 2k primer does after a time and can be sanded glass smooth with an orbital sander and 240 grit paper! For example you could virtualy reface straight over that wing as is, flat it back and it would be ready for primer/top coat! I`ve tried other polyester fillers which are ok, but this stuff is the best! I belive it has been banned in trade due to too many body shops cheating with it, but it is available to private/classic car enthusiasts!:D Hope this helps?

Thanks mate we really appreciate the advise as we've not done anything like this before. Alan spoke to someone at his local parts shop yesterday about finishing coats and after chatting about gel coats and plastic coats we opted for the plastic coat finish. As we still have the rest of the kit to do we will look into getting what you have suggested.
Will have to get an airgun and compressor as well.

tonight ive been busy rubbing the rear part down clear of primer and getting it all smooth with plastic filler that is quite good
so here is the work so far.

next part to do is the corner piece as there is going to be escort cosworth vents fitted like the original

having spent all yesterday walking round ikea with the miss's buying new wordrobes and taking the old stuff apart and erecting the new stuff never managed to get anything done.
so today all ive done is work on the arch i have done the back piece were the escort cosworth vent will be going and in the words of pablo it is as smooth as baby's back side but i prefer smooth like the finest breasts:)

so here you go

the exposed fibreglass is were it is going to be attached to the inner wing once it is fixed to the car that is when it will all be cleaned and smoothed out.

next job is to do the front part and get it upto the perfection of the back peice:smilielol5:

I really admire the work and time you both put into your car for next season, and also for attempting something that your both not experienced in.

Its going to look really good, i would love to play about with fibreglass and wide arch body work but couldnt afford to pay someone else to do it and wouldnt dare risk it or know where to start! Well done!

Thanks James:). We have litterally spent weeks discussing this part of the project and have even looked into getting someone else to do some of the work, but like yourself we couldn't justify the cost on the simple basis of 'what if'.

Luckily Alan is able to do most things to a fairly good level the problem arrises when Bart takes over (split personality), attention span of a 10 year old:smilielol5: Just kidding mate to be honest it looks really, really good.
