Lubricant advice

Post by jazzymonkey »

Hi all, i am after advice on what engine oil, gearbox and diff oil to use in my car. I am going to replace them all myself and save a bit of money and spend it on something else for the car. Sorry if this question has been asked before.
I also would like to know what spark plugs to use.
The car is a 96 Impreza STI import.
Thanks in advance.

Mocal 15-50 or Millers 10-60 fully Synthetic for the engine.
A good quality 75-90 again Mocal or Millers for gearbox & Diff. 5L iirc.
NGK PFR6B plugs.

What he said lol.

I can do colder plugs depending on your state of tune and also NGK iridiums if they float your boat. All the oils in stock ok.

I went for Millers 10-60 for the engine and Millers 75-90 for the gears. Also purchased some NGK BKR7EIX's. All supplied by Fast Eddy, thanks for a good deal and thanks for everyones recommendations and comments.

I wouldn't have gone for the Iridiums. I had problems with those and changed over to the NGK PFR7B Platinums and poor running problem was solved.

That's it, we've put the windies up him now!! :ack2:

Iridiums are OK if you want a long life plug that doesn't need changing for a long time but they are known for sometimes losing the Iridium tip on the end of the electrode. I don't think they're as good as they're billed and certainly not worth the extra cost over Platinums. I didn't have mine in for that long before i started to get starting problems and some issues with misfires under high engine loads.

Swapped over to the Platinums at my last oil change and bingo, job done!! In my opinion you're better off changing the plugs regularly at least every year and perhaps even every 6months or sooner depending on how much heavy use they're getting.

If you do experience any running problems swap the plugs.
