I drove Scotts Racing Kart, how fast was this!

Post by Miniwilliams »

Well what can i say, what a great experience. Scott kindly offered me a drive in his racing Kart, so i went along to the track to see what it was all about.
With Over 410 bhp Per ton to play with i don't know why i was so surprise at how fast it was. When the revs were high enough the power valve opened, the engine note changed and revs shot up, it really goes a move on, and with the back end squirming around all over the place to lay the power down it needed every amount of concentration i had. This thing is so responsive, only a small input on the steering wheel would result in a lot of movement. It reminded me of fighting the mini on full power, the way it darts around all over the place. If you braked to hard the back end would want to over take you in a flash and you would be facing the opposite way in moments if you weren't careful, Added to this that if you put to much power down on a bend you would do the same! I really don't think that people really know what these karts are like, There are NOTHING like the twin engined things you have at the local go-kart tracks. I can see why Scott sold his fast RX7 as getting back into it after a day out in the Kart would feel possibly slow but it makes your car fell sloppy and un safe as the karts are so tight. The other thing to show you just how brutal these things are is in the morning my hips were all bruised along and my rubs are very sore due to being thrown around so much in the seat, my arms ach a little as well, i can't imagine what Scott's like after a long race with 20 other Karts on the grid!
I was pleased with his comments on my driving, I'd never been out in any thing like this before. After lot of help from Scott and a few more laps he said the times i was getting (no where near his times BTW!) were good enough to have passed the test that's needed when you go for your Karting licence!

That does look like huge fun :) I see Scott has indulged himself in some Alpinestars stuff ;) Can't beat the quality and style (but then I would say that)

How is Scott and his racing? Last time we spoke he was doing very nicely.......something about a lap record?

Glad you enjoyed it. As i have said this is something you have to drive to understand.
The pace you showed was very good and with a little more time you could have gone quicker for sure.

For sure matt realised how physical this machine is to drive but also how rewarding it is when you get it right.

Scott

btw. For anybody interested in getting into this http://www.gorotax.com or http://www.karting.co.uk or pm me

they are still not good mate, was out today on the floor working on mini and i felt my some thing in my side go pop, now all my side aches again! you must be mad doing this lol. Think it's better to stick with a nice warm safe normal car to drive around in, much less painfull.
