In-car camera mounts

Post by M J P »

I did a track day at Cadwell back in July and was told in the briefing that MSV have now banned the use of all mounts using the suction cup fixing to the windscreen at all MSV circuits.

Can anyone confirm this as it would be a waste of money having to replace my current one?

I use this one:

Are these just banned from the windscreen or banned altogether.

So how do you record incar footage if you haven't got a rollcage to fix it to??

That's a shit decision imo as i would challange anyone to try and pull my pencil cam sucker mounts off my windscreen.

bealo id have a guess at the reason is if worst ever happens and someone rolls the car the screen will be the first thing to crack releasing the suckers so then camera is able to swing around in car

You may well disagree with the decision however the decision has been made by our health and safety officer because of a number of conflicting incidents, i dont totally agree with it either as some of the more decent camera mounts are extremly strong, but its all down to H&S and our insurance company at the end of the day.

As Gary says the decision was made partly to do with the number of accidents on track days where a car has rolled/collided and so on, the mount has come off and hit either the driver, or a passenger somewhere and in a few occasions has caused a serious issue. At a fairly high speed impact the mount coming off with the camera would act like a brick inside the car, accidents have been caused because of the mounts coming off windscreens entering a corner, casuing distraction resulting in an accident.

We have had customers try to claim that we have damaged their cameras after they have been used on a trackday, or testing, whether as during vehicle recovery or otherwise, and are trying to claim the cost of replacement from us.

So as a result of this the heads at Brands have decided to ban all suction mounted camera equiptment.

I cant offer advise on alternitives as im not to clued up on whats available.

Try here for alternatives and they even do a helmet mount for those of you with a sun roof D

I understand it's the power who be who have made the decision but i was in a high speed crash and rolled over i think my pencil cam hitting me would be the last of my worries.

What mounts are allowed????
