Great pics and some nice machinery. I'll have to go next year, if you can guarantee the weather :D
Manythanks :) maybe we should do a group go next year ?

The first time I tried quarter mile stuff, I thought it was going to be a doddle. How wrong can you be :) Practice certainly does help massively; we're running our own little drag night in a couple of weeks @ Snetterton if you fancy saying hello and bringing the Peril along.

My personal favourite out of the cars pictured has to be that Puma. It looks like a lovely level of preparation. What sort of times did it get, do you know?
My Personal fav is also the puma what a car i can only dream of my volvo going like that :) I might come to the snet meet :)

Perhaps we should include it in next year's BP Sprint Champs?

We would all need to join the relevant Brighton and Hove club Gerry, but I'm certainly not opposed to looking into it. Variety being the spice of life and all that

I believe you also need a Nat A speed licence, but I may stand corrected.

I thought that this may be fun and looked in to it. The details are here:
http://www.brightonandhovemotorclub.co. ... trials.php
It seems that you can enter with a non race Nat B class licence but you will then be restricted as to the class that you can enter. This rather put me off as I don't need a race licence for anything else that I do. This would make it an expensive event for me to enter what with ARDS tests, medical etc. One day pehaps...

Do you have a speed licence? If so get six signatures on the back and get it upgraded to a Nat A speed licence, no need for an ARDS course. It also means you can compete at places like Prescott which is Nat A only.

Always worth upgrading to Nat A. You can't drive a 2.0L+ single seater without one. Come the lottery win and an F3000 you wouldn't be able to use it. :)

In practical terms, how does this work? Excuse my stupidity; I'd heard that you can go from novice to established (i.e no black cross on a yellow square on the back of the race car) but not aware of the above. Sounds very interesting

I believe a race licence entitles you to enter Nat. A sprints and in this case refers only to sprints.

When you first get a licence, it's the lowest grade, e.g. Speed National B and you can only enter Nat B events (which most of 'ours' are). The Blue Book contains an upgrade card and can be used, if you want, to upgrade to the next level of licence. You place a passport type piccie of yourself on the card and fill in your details. The card is handed in at signing on of each event and, if you've behaved yourself during the event, the CoC signs in one of the boxes. Once you have the requisite number of signatures, you are entitled to apply for the next grade up.

Race licences have a similar scheme but for the first grade of licence you have to race with the black X to show others in the race that you're a learner. As you're the only one on a sprint course at any one time, there's no need for a black x.
