Well, I am still alive, but I have been bloody busy with work so sorry for the lack of contribution to the site or project updates for a while. Until last week I hadnt been to the workshop for a month, but I hadnt spent much of that time near home anyway.
The RX7 is still an on-going project. I spent some time last week on it, and the status now is the interior is all but completely stripped and the focus has been on stripping out the wiring harness and making a good one. Several kilos of copper string have gone, but this is going to be a fairly long job to get it finished. Electrics have never been something I have enjoyed. It is another skill I am learning as I do it, so it is probably taking me a lot longer than someone who knows what they are doing.
If I can get out of work at a reasonable time tomorrow then I will get down there again for a few hours, but otherwise it will have to wait until the weekend. I dont think this car is going to be ready for an Autotest on saturday that I am tempted to join in.

And there was me thinking you'd disappeared completely! 
I had seen a little reshuffle at the unit so I guessed either Dave had been in on your behalf or that you had squeezed some time in yourself.

And this car doesnt have an ECU or ABS! It is carbs and a dizzy to run the engine. The wires are for all the instruments, windows, lights, washers, pop-up headlights, heater, fans, etc....AdrianP wrote:I guess we don't appreciate how much wire a car needs to work properly until you see something like this...
The rear Body harness was done last night, and is only about a thrid of the original harness in size and weight.
A couple of months later, but the project is still going.
- A cage has been sourced from Safety Devices and now fitted. It was a bolt in cage, but the rear half is welded into the car to strengthen it up and the front half fitted right against the shell and firmly attached.
- Wiring almost done (I hope) now needs bundling back together and protecting.
- All sound deadening has been removed to save weight and potential rust traps for the future.
- The seat mount cross braces in the floor removed, to be replaced with new ones to suit the spare seats from my old Elise. Much lighter and lower than the originals.
- The shell is now rust free! the last few bits have been treated or cut out and new metal fabricated. The only bits left are by the seat mount area which is next on the job list anyway.
- The misses has also helped out and sanded down the bonnet and front end today ready for paint.
With the snow and cold, what little time I have had to get to the workshop is quickly cut short by freezing to the car, but it is still slowly progressing. If I can pick up some seat runners tomorrow then I will hopefully get down there for a few more hours and remember the camera this time. I want this car ready to drive soon!

The floor is now flat, and most of the cat tunnel has been cut out. I make the seat frames and runners and I should be able to get a good fit now, once the cutout floor section is replaced, but it is already smoothed, treadted and painted in zinc primer.

I am fed up of modicying pressed steel road cars where nothing is flat or easy to fit! The next project will have a flat floor. I always fancied a 30s ford sedan rat rod anyway
