District 9- mini film review

For those that don't know, this is a new sci-fi release that has stirred up a real hornets nest of attention from the media. It centres around Johannesburg in South Africa and its settlement of unwelcome Alien guests.

The synopsis is that the aliens have been here for 28 years, and segregated within District 9, a military controlled slum where humans aren't welcome or encouraged to go. Due to mounting social pressures, the authorities decide to unlawfully evict the Aliens, nicknamed Prawns, to a new camp 240kms outside of the city. District 9 hides a good many secrets and a good few of them are not what you expect.

When I read this spiel, this overview, I thought here we go again; some ghetto style movie, filled with 'don't go in there' moments and things filmed in the dead of night. I was so pleasantly surprised. The film was a delight.

The special effects were superb, the storyline so much better than I could have hoped for and the reaction it's had from critics and the press is justified. I felt sick to my stomach when I left the cinema and nothing to do with special effects.

I'll leave it at that ;)

If you love Sci-Fi, watch it. If you think this is the next Transformers, you will be very surprised. This has a great script, a cracking non-Hollywood feel and willl be a film I watch many times over.

I loved it.

District 9 was released at the cinema's on Friday of this week, cert. 15

I used to know a girl with hips like that. A great boon for obvious reasons :D

Actually, she had a moustache like that one too

One of my ex's was from SA, Jo'berg actually...and she was as mad as a hatter....totally bonkers!! I think she would fit in very well at District 9.

Looks a great film, i must drag Hazel out to watch this.
Buggers cancelled my op just a couple of days before it was due. Inconsiderate barstewards!!

Bloody good, one of the best things I've seen in ages. (As good as "Up" by Disney ;))
