Nurburgring Plans

Post by RX7 »

Anyone seen this :
http://www.nuerburgring.de/english/comp ... -2009.html

Looks like they are making it a bit more 'touristy' with the big welcome centre with car companies, rollercoaster, 'american steakhouse', disco, bucking bull etc etc.

Personally I feel this might spoil the legendary status the place has.

What do you think ?

If it brings costs down, and they keep numbers on track sensible, great.
Problem is, it's normlly hard enough to get on there as it is, does it really need more drivers queueing?
It'll be more likely to attract families, but less "honest" in my opinion.
Shame

Families, school trips etc etc.
At least during the week it was quieter but I reckon this will make it busy all the time.

Couldnt decide where the welcome centre was either, was it near the GP circuit ? Or the normal track entrance ?

I wouldn't mind having a go on the rollercoaster, 0-130mph in 2.5 seconds! 2.46g on launch!

This was a matter of time when you consider the volume of people that make the trip each year and the new facilities will make it far more appealing for families and those wanting 'one more trip'.

I am sure that I read that numbers attending this year have fallen from 2008 so surely re-invigorating the brand will help? I would also wager that dropping the costs per lap, keeping a limit on how many people are on track at once and having safety cars/ bikes on laps with the public would help too.

Obviously I haven't been for a while and even then, I'd only made the trip twice so I dare say that I am not that up to date or informed. I often think about going back but I've not been to so many other circuits with comparable atmosphere's and supporting 'entertainment', I'll concentrate on cracking a few of them first and leave the Ring circus to it's own devices for a while yet.
