New Sprint Idea for 2010 on a budget

Post by Gerry H »

Thoughts and Ideas welcome

The idea is to standardise the BP Sprint Challenge and create a low cost fun competition. No need for a handicap system as it would be a single marque/model/class.

So, with that in mind, the idea is, we all buy a Mazda MX5 of ca. 1995 1800cc. twin OHC, retain full interior, no mods, list 1A tyres and roll cage. Only upgrades allowed will be suspension (not coilovers) brakes (discs & pads) roll cage. I don't know what variants there are but we would need to decide whether the UK or JDM (Eunos) model or if there's no difference then either.

That will put us all in the same class, same car, same tyres, must be driven to and from the event. Quickest will be mostly by driving ability not wallet size. Great fun on the BP autotest evenings as well. These things can be picked up for

Would the "must be driven to and from the event" bit be negotiable? Sounds like a laugh, but having to insure, tax & mot another car all adds to the cost unnecessarily if weve already got tow cars.

The reason for drive to and from is to keep all the entries in the same class. For roadgoing, they must be taxed, MOTd and insured. i.e. road legal.

Well the option to road going is modified and you won't stand a chance in there. Also in modified you'll be modifying it.

The idea is cheap and samey.

i like the idea gerry but an mx5 ! i cant drive an mx5 i'd feel to much of a fat poof driving it around on the road.
no offence to mx5 owners as i know they are actually a good car and handle really well , also do look a lot of fun racing them
but not for me on the road

What's the matter with you lot? :x

I was talking with Mike B earlier and he thought it was a great idea. I forgot to mention, Mike reckons the first prize ought to be a gold plated hair dryer.

What about on a trailer then? But no mods.
