Was almost tempted by a white one of these on e-bay the the other week, made just over
Project FC RX7
Ok - here goes.RX7 wrote:Sounds great.....pics pics pics !!!
The V8 in the car, as I got it:

And its place now after tonights work:
(engine out was easy, getting the bumper off was 2 hours of swearing at Mazda. New, quick releaase mounts will be made for it before it goes back on)

The list of what has been done is posted above. Only the engine out to add, and of course I designed new engine mounts tonight for a much better install and easier servicing, fitting and removal later. I will start making them this weekend. For the build photos here are a collection of ones I remebered to take as working on the car...
Arriving with the car

what it used to look like underneath

and at the back

custom prop with slip joint

spot the stupid mistake by the original builder

Yep, adjustable caster rather than camber on the top mounts
Sunroof panel welded up and filled

and smoothed

and primed

New doors, tyres and wheels ( wheels since puu back on the silvia for now)

Rear subframe coming out

other toys patiently waiting outside

subframe out

floor washed and waxoyled whilst the subframe is out

Subframe sorted and painted

and back in teh car with an RX7 turbo diff and driveshafts too

Prop adaptor for turbo diff made and fitted ( thank god for the lathe)

rear supension and brakes sorted (front also done)

some more friends turn up to distract us with a little photo opportunity

Bonnet off (very light alluminium, no need for a carbon bonnet here) and geting the engine ready to come out

Here it goes

And the empty engine bay

There are a load of other things i seem to have forgoten to take photos of, like the interior, gearbox mount I made or a video of the engine runnig and the noise it makes (Stu, have you still got the one on your phone?) I will have to get them as the fornt goes back together.
This weekend I got the engine bay stripped out of almost everything and the whole front end off the car too. Cleaned it all, sanded and finally paiinted the engine bay white. I also took the gearbox off the block to work out what is going on with the clutch. Still none the wiser, but will probably replace what is there whislt it is out since I dont know its history.
Some parts have been re-painted, built or whatever needed and have started going back into the engine bay, but I need to sort out the steering and designing / making new engine mounts before I get too far into that.
I stupidly misplaced the camera, hopefully just leaving it in the workshop, so I dont have the pictures yet that I took. Trust me it looks great until I find them.

You looked like one tired and pissed off Bunny on Saturday night.....the workshop looked like you'd thrown a hand grenade in there
Keep up the good work, it'll all be worth it

There is plenty of room under the ramp for it, or on the ramp since it is a driver. I just need to roll it and the nissan out for space when working on the FC.stuart wrote:Not worried mate See how you get on, it can sit on the trailer for now
Camera still not found, so I will take the other one over there tomorrow night for some new build images. Tomorrow is "engine mount night", so if all goes well then the engine will be going back in next weekend.
Found the camera whilst doing a little more work tonight.
So, Engine bay getting cleared out:

including a very unsafe fuel pipe!

started to paint it ( hamerrite, thinners and a compressor)

Then start putting the parts back in:

And tonight we cut out the old engine mounts and started to make new ones, once I had worked out how and we got the teering column enough room to work preoperly.

Most of the evening went into getting the sodding gearbox out of the Silvia, so engine mounts will wait until the weekend before any more progress is made.
