I wasnt intentionally touting, but PM repluied to. My recent habits have been putting much bigger engines in cars, but I like playing with boost too.Rob S wrote:If you're touting for work, I am interested! PM sent
E30 track day car-- idiot keeping himself busy!
I know we have had a discussion about it but I don't think you should go for an m20 engine
I think you will be quickly disappointed by it although it is a good engine I feel you will soon be crying out for more power as I am at the moment. :x
However Turbo'd or supercharged that may be a different matter altogether!!

Eureka moment, engine plans coming together.......
After reading volumes and volumes on the pro's and con's of different methods and routes to go with this, and speaking with some very patient people, I have a plan
My goal is to have a 4 cylinder like mine, but enlarged to between 2.0 and 2.1, with megasquirt and throttle bodies by this time next year. With cams and head work, the target is about 180-190 BHP with no more weight.
So this year, I'll be getting weight off the car, tweaking it here and there, and getting a list of bits to "do" the engine over the winter season, whilst the body gets sorted.
If things go as I've been told they should, I can buy the parts for the new engine as it's being rebuilt, spreading the cost.
If the project gets the green light, I'll get another M40 lump, and the slow time process will begin in the near future.
Thanks to Rob Callow and RPS13 for their advise and time, I feel happier now I know where I want to take the car, and the best part is, the car will only be off the road "off" season, giving me time to improve with the car as it is.

Rather than get a Megasquirt Rob, talk to Gary about getting a bespoke ECU made for you by one of his contacts.
I will be going down that route after the suspension and rear brakes are done. It makes financial sense and has been proven to give the flexibility that a decent mapper wants with proven results.
A light weight engine makes some sense and you should retain some reliability with luck. In terms of weight loss, you can go as far as you want as long as you remember that the weight coming out will equate to the refinement losses.
An 900kg car with 190bhp would be pretty handy mate

I think what will happen will be the rebuild with a larger displacement and headwork/cam etc, I'll see what happens with megasquirt/ECU/ throttle bodies or carbs (Trev :thumb: )afterwards.
Whats been spoken about is having two maps, one for the road, and another full beans version for the track, but I'll certainly look into that Stu.
In the mean time, I'll be after lightening it, improving the exhaust, but mostly improving my driving.
PS Sorry Gerry, my only turbo will be on my T5, as much as I love boost, I still think its witchcraft
