I took 17lbs of sound deadening out, and then spent a few hours getting some of the several gallons of adhesive out.
The end result is not 100%, but it's miles better than before, and should look a lot better once the new seats are in.

Sound deadening out...

Need more speed....decisions decisions....

Post by Rob S »

I've been picking my single brain cell about getting my old girl quicker, and for a change I am trying to be methodical and do things once, rather than cock it up, make the wrong choices are have spares and bills everywhere.
I was very pleased with the cars handling the other night, I carried about 85-90mph through Coram and with practice that would improve.
I don't want to spoil that unnecessarily, but would be willing to learn to learn to adapt if needs be.
My options (being sensible for a change) are
1: M20B25 engine and box, diff, 325 12v =170BHP , 175KG
2: M42 16V and box, diff =136HP, 132KG (lighter than my existing lump-just)

Thanks for reading/helping in advance........

EDIT
Found http://www.letstorquebhp.com/calculator.asp and saw that the figures are wee bit optomistic :o , but maybe the M20 is edging it...

I think you need the 3.5 V8 or the M52 2.8 (which requires more fettling I believe) really, to give it some real go.

Thanks Tommy, but I am looking for plug and play, else I'd probably go for an SR20 or a red top Vauxhall . I'm no engineer and I can't afford to pay one :D

I've been researching a bit more and the M42's are as expensive to rebuild if not more so than an M20........
I'm not after blowing my receeding hair off, just having more fun.
Your engine in my car would be nice though

turbo what you have?

A lazy option that you dont even have to take the engine out for.

Rob,
I would nt have a clue where to start mate, unfortunately my areas of expertise rest with gross motor skills and asking daft questions on forums.
Do you know anything about this conversion?
I figure with your background you could probably turbocharge anything......

If you dont get carried away it should be fairly easy for a DIY low boost turbo. I may have 1 that would suit it too.
There are plenty of places that could make a basic manifold and downpipe - they arent difficult. Then it is just plumbing. (connect to intake, oil and water feed for the turbo, and get a load more fuel in there).

The alternative would be an m45 supercharger. Plenty on eBay from minis and you dont have to touch the exhaust system, just make mounts, connect to the intake and a belt run. If you need push in the right direction I will help where I can with either.

I have never even looked under your engine bay, but I cant foresee a big problem with either conversion.

also, I have pair of turbo's sat in my shed which could be potentials for you - they are a standard set of GTR ones with all the relevant pipes - i'm sure one of them could be used with your car with a bit of work.
