TNT Racing XR4x4 - Time Attack 2009
Prior to going out in the warm up session we had the car running up to temp. to make sure that the fans cut in at the right temp and that evrything looked and sounded as it should, everything checked out fine then in the warm up session on the first lap as Alan came off the accelerator the engine just died
We eventually traced what we thought was the problem the fuel pressure regulator, if we took the vacuum pipe off the car would run but as soon as we put it back on the engine would die. Took the car out for a test only to find that we were now only getting 6 psi of boost :x . At this point we feared that our old problem with the turbo was back, so we decided that the practice session was out and Alan set about taking off a hot turbo
The turbo was fine but we did find a split in the bottom of the air intake pipe to the turbo
Turbo refitted and everything put back as it was, took the car out for another test but still only getting 10 psi. By now it only 20 minutes till qualifing so decided to run it as it was.
Out lap went fine no problems then as soon as Alan went for it, it died again :x .
The pump was not buzzing so Wayne (Alan's brother) hooked up the spare battery direct to the fuel pump to see if the pump was dead or if the problem was in the wiring. The problem is a broken connecort on the live wire to the pump.

Just spent 2 hours doing my report and uploading the pics and then the forum logged me out :x :x :x
It was a great day although an early start. We left at 3 am. for the 4 hour drive down. We had a few issues thoughout the day but were able to deal with them and do all sessions. In the warm up the car got a bit too hot this turned out to be due an air blockage in the rad. This also damaged the plugs as were not using our usual plugs, couldn't get any in time.
The second session was going well with Alan feeling more comfortable with the busy sessions, but out breaking himself into McLeans he ran wide and onto the very heavily serated Kerb, which broke the bolt on the petrol tank support strap. He aborted the lap and dove into the emergency vehicle access road. He shouted me over the radio to bring him a rope so he could secure it and drive back to the pits. 15 minutes later it was fixed. Alan was really having fun out there
.
Again in the quailing session all was going well and Alan was starting to really throw the car around and having fun...until as he exited McLeans the temps went up and the car sounding sick again he bailed straight into the pit lane. As I opened the bonnet water was spraying everywhere :x First thought was head gasket but a quick look and I realised that it was just a split hose
All in all a big step forward over the issues we've had recently, but more importantly we had fun
In brief we had a great day, yes we had problems during each session but we were able to sort them to some degree and the car made it through all sessions
