My Shelsley T2 kit-car

Post by chrislandy »

Hi, just joined.
Passed the SVA in November but still haven't got round to registering it as the engine blew during testing at Donnington! doh!

Anyway, here's a few pictures...

The engine/running gear is Rover T16 turbo from the 220 coupe but the rest of it is custom fabricated for the kit, chassis, suspension etc... weighs in at 850kg (wet)

On the old engine (pre big bang lots of smoke) - NB at the wheels:
172bhp at 5290rpm
197lb/ft at 3740rpm
10.4psi (limited) Boost at 3110 through to 6600rpm
AFR was circa 11.2-12 on boost

so, passed the SVA and down to Donnington to play with it - 6 laps in and oil smoke filled the engine bay - every oil seal popped

So, I've build the new engine and will be ready to go in early May, spec as follow:
1.9mm overbore to 86.4mm arias pistions
Pauter forged rods
2.5kg off the crank
6kg off the flywheel
Balanced
piper 270 cams + verniers
ported & flowed head
Ferriday Engineering thermal plates on the exhaust and inlet manifold
T3/T28 turbo
Seimens 660cc injectors
DTA ecu

Although not mapped yet (obviously!!) the target power is about 300lbft at 5500rpm so time will tell whether it makes it or not!!

There is no specific donor car as such, there are a number of Rover parts on it like the engine, gearbox, driveshafts, brake calipers and steering rack/wheel to make replacement parts easy/cheap to buy or recondition but they are from different cars (MG Maestro, ZR, MGF etc)

All major components have been designed and fabricated from scratch by the kit manufacturer (an ex-hillclimb champion) i.e. chassis, hubs, suspension (unequal double wishbones front and rear) there is also geo for antisquat in the rear and antidive in the front, plus, the bodywork (obviously) is custom.
