after being greated by this when starting the car on saturday decission was that the
head gaskets had gone on both side.

so today started stripping down the top the engine and was greeted by this
inside the rocker covers and on the rockers themselves, lovly mayo stuff

Image
Image

having looked at the headgasket its self you can see (from left to right) the gases
have leaked out of pistons 3 and 2 at the bottom with black marks.

Image

i put a spirit level over the heads and used 0.05mm feler guage to see if the
heads had been worped in any way but thankfully they havent

right now for the news about the turbo
i have taken it off looked at the blades, checked to feel if there was any play from
the bearings and its fine WAHOO :-D we still intend on changing it after the first
round so that we can send it off to be reconditioned and have a spare to hand.

while i have got the car up in the air im going to fit a new radiater and fans
that we got the weekend as the other one spring a leak hopefully we can get it repaired
so we have a spare

This is was greeted me as I turned into my road about an hour ago. Bart had been hard at it all day

We seem to spend a lot of time with engine looking like this  :x

Hopefully the new head gaskets should be here in the morning.

Gotta be honest guys, I wouldnt trust using a spirit level as a base for feeler guages! They're not machined anywhere near accurately enough to base a precise measurement like that on.

It's a system that we have used before to good effect and as long as it serves us well we will more than likely use it again  . We at Team TNT have sat down and discused all our options and the time that we have left till the first round we wouldn't have been able to get them skimmed anyway. Even if it meant that we would have to run with less boost and run the risk of blowing the head gasket again we would still go ahead. Fior us about walking the walk.
It's a learning curve and we learn from our mistakes but we also succeed from our efforts.

Thanks for sharing your concerns.

A good quality steel rule mate, the type engineers use, this is a far better way to test with guages under because they are manufactured far more accurately than spirit levels which have inperfections due to the fact they are designed to give an average over their lengh where as a steel rule is accurate down its entire lengh!
