r888 uneven wear

Post by tomcat »

I am finding that the band section in the centre of the tyre has worn badly
It looks worse in the flesh - I was running at 30-32 hot so lower than recomended so its not over inflation.

And was advised to up my pressures to 30 psi cold - 1200kg car. However, was also advised this type of wear is to be expected on 888s

There's quite a feathering on one side. Either geometry or some nice slides.
Handle every stressful situation like a dog. If you can't eat it or hump it, piss on it and walk away!

i had a similar wear issue on my first set but to be honest i think i was over driving the tyres, because they seemed to be giving me new found grip and speed i just kept leaning on them and taking the piss basicly , looking back i feel that i was being far too aggresive with them and subsiquently have changed my technique to suit what i feel they can cope with .

cheers

possibly over driving although its difficult on fwd as you always spin the wheels or learn on them too hard!
mine have done 4 trackdays and a few thousand miles so not too bad
fronts were really hot when I came into the pits but the rears were only luke warm

It could just be down to the tyre mate as i have heard this before.. think about the T1-S tyres always used to bow in the middle then they brought out the T1-R's with tread lines on the edges which seemed to cure the problem with the old T1-S's?
just a thought :|

I suffered with this on ocassion in 2007 and 2008.

Understeer issues, but also too high psi when hot.

The TOYO recomended psi's were at least 5psi out for my car last year.

Mine wear exactly the same. I think its just a characteristic of the 888`s :(
