Impreza FMIC and Manifold mods.

Post by Gerry H »

I did a little project thread so here goes.

A couple of things I've been wanting to do but it was too cold over the winter to be out in the elements as bravery and machoism disappeared with youth. So, a mate has moved his business to a unit 10 mins away and said I could use his ramp, that was 3 weeks ago and I'm still there

Jobs to do list:

1 Fit new Whiteline, rear anti-roll bar.
2. Remove ABS pump.
3. Rotate inlet manifold & shorten IC pipework.
5. Fit cold air box for inlet
6. Remove half a mile of clutch pipework.
7. Fit Fire extinguisher system.
8. Loads of other bits.

Anti roll bar was done but with complications. I went for uprated mounts which means replacing the OE brackets. After 13 years the bolts holding the o/s bracket were corroded in place and sheared. Drilling was only possible if I removerd the petrol filler pipe but as I had a full tank of petrol, we decided to weld the new bracket in place instead.

The ABS has been permanently un-plugged, electrically, since a very wet North Weald sprint last March. Braking at the end of a long, bumpy straight for a tight right ander would see me sail straight on until I released the brake pedal. The car has DCCD and applying torue towards the frnt meant that if one wheel locks, they all do. By the same token all wheels unlock with the ABS with a NO brake effect. :o The space left by the ABS pump will allow a cold air box to be fitted in the inner wing, at long last.

The inlet rotating is aimed at reducing the tortuous route of the ic pipework with it

Blimey, thats a heck of an undertaking Gerry, good work.
Those boxer engines give me shivers, just thinking of working on one makes me want to go an bury my head in the sand.
Fingers crossed you'll reap the benefits from it!

Glad you've dumped the ABS mate, as Gareth, Dan Booker and young Dan discussed at the last race meet, ABS is for fags :D

Glad to see that you've got started on the car though. It's only two weeks to the first sprint and we wouldn't want any excuses now would we :)

Those under bonnet pix show what a real mess it all is with wires and pipes all over the place. There's not the space to get things looking tidy, until now, I hope, but there won't be the time now. Stu, there's one week until Honington and in that time I have a bew ecu and rear bushes plus my day job :o

Rob, they're not that bad. Once you've skinned your hands a few times they fit into places more easily

Trev, get a pic up of your Pulsar bay for an example of crowded.

There's a couple of serious racers in the workshop, here's one little beauty to aspire to. The workmanship is superb and makes my car look fit for scrap.

'Other Pulsar' Not another one in the family? :)

Honington is planned butI'm getting rather worried to be honest. Be nice to use it as a shakedown before the main event.
