Blown Turbo
Blown Turbo
Took the car to be set up this morning and the resulting news was sole desroying. After 5 months of rebuilding this engine it it is running very nicely however it would not make more than 4-5 psi of boost. No matter what Gordon tried or checked she would make any boost. He gave me the news i didn't want, that it looks like the turbo has failed on the exhaust side.

Alan is working all this weekend but the turbo had to come off which due to the lack of space was going to be a nightmare. Alan had managed to get in contact with his brother Wayne to come over and give me a hand.
By the time Wayne had arrived I had got all the pipework off and was starting to unbolt the turbo.
I already had an idea of what was waiting for me as Gordon (Streetracers rolling road tuning) found something yesterday that was a big clue.

What you can see is actually exhaust paste

The fan still spins freely with no play and hardly any noticeable damage to the fins. We decided to refit the turbo but first gave it a good clean out.

I will be taking it out tomorrow to see if it now producing boost...fingers crossed.
