ASBO Switch

Post by duncan »

Got the solaris fitted today by Pat Herborne of Solaris-ecs.com - The Solaris S6 Ecu was the piece of kit concerned.... a competition spec ecu than is also suitable for road cars. I felt that this was the perfect choice for me to take the car beyond where it is at present. Currently it had been held back on the current OE ecu but now it can be set free.

The Drive by Wire (DBW) throttle system on the 2006 STi onwards is a bit of a stumbling point for most ecu's but thanks to pat's enginuity it has been nailed and now fully mappable and controllable with an aftermarket ecu 8) Along with AVCS, datalogging and some little toys for the devil inside.

After some pecularities in the ecu fitting and some strange power signals from the car it fired into life when requested and idled like a dream. Then was a case of checking all sensors and drive by wire was working as anticipated... all A OK :D

Pat explained how it all worked and the guesstimap that he loaded on seemed to do a reasonable job - so much so that hardly any tweaks were needed to enable me to drive it away and get the map sorted myself.

Before doing this Pat wired up the calibration switch. This is an 8 position switch that can alter the map, boost, fueling table from any of the 4 distinct map or combinations of them and add in little toys such as launch control, flat throttle shifting and anti lag.

I just couldnt help myself ... the lure of the ASBO switch was too much. I tried to stop myself but just couldnt.

Damn that is mental ! Laughing like a 10 year old is superb :D

Everyone needs a bit of anti lag in their life !

Oh and driving wise, the first impressions are much smoother on and off throttle and part throttle changes being the biggest change - very nice.

Good lad, now outside with the video camera we need to hear the snap crackle and pop. That S6 ECU really does sound the nuts.

That sounds like an awesome setup. Grin factor x10. Nice one :thumb:

Yeah it is fun for sure.

But... the main thing is it removes the MAF and the limits it imposes. Immediately it is smoother at part throttle whereas before it would be jerky with avcr trying to make pretty much full boost at half throttle.

I have closed loop fueling running again now too so idle is as smooth as anything and more economical too. I will wire the wideband into it this week to get fuel closed loop fueling for all the map so that it can adjust to target lambda at all rpm/map sites. This should make it much more precise from a fueling point of view than MAF could ever do.

Knock control is active too so there is a safety net :)

Datalogging is pretty special too, so no need for the laptop constantly connected. It has enough memory to hold a full track session of a huge number of parameters (circa 50 that i have set so far) at a great sample rate in memory then download when back in the pits and see what has happened. It also logs errors alongside this in real time so you can see where these happened and the data immediately leading up to it.

Lots to play with and learn in the software before booking some dyno time to get the map right. :thumb:

I could only dream of logging functions like that and a sample rate to match. What's the software like to map with compared with RR. I bet it's a different world, even compared to EcuTek. I'm getting moist just thinking about how much control you have over the ECU. At least now you can really get it to do exactly what you want. Excellent!! :D

BTW......What are you doing with your OP2.0 now you have a completely different setup?? ;)
