Having turned into a complete and utter BMW whore, I would add the E46 M3 to your list. Easily get one with your budget.

Need advise on a new car!

Post by Evo »

Guys,

Having sold my EVO 8 what seems like a million years ago to buy a house for me and the Girlfriend, I'm really missing something fun to drive! The Girlfriends now gone and I want something fun for the spring/summer but I cant decide what to get..! Got a budget of around the 10k mark

I've got a short list so far of;

350Z
Elise
VX220 non turbo/turbo

Or

Get another EVO, but then would I be disappointed if I got back to EVO World having already been there before..!

So has anyone owned one of the above, been in one of the above, or have any views on any of the above.

Or feel free to suggest some other cars!

Cheers

I would go for the vx220 T from the list but how about another?

Honda S2000 should be able to get one in budget now Handles supremely and arguably the best engine available as far as reliability goes. Whole handfull of fun and looks to die for.
Steer clear of the 350 Industry is expecting some major depreciation on these when the 370 hits the shores value if you can find one but for next year not this..
My 2p and worth half that :-D

I agree with Jason, i would go for the VX220 (Turbo). I looked into this a couple of years ago and i understand they are very tuneable and don't cost the earth to mod.

GoKart handling with EVO go sounds great!!

Apart from the looks/bodyshape doesn't the Elise use the same floorpan/chassis and suspension coponents? Got to be one of the ultimate budget trackday weapons of the century and rare as rocking horse drops as you hardly ever see any about :D
Buggers cancelled my op just a couple of days before it was due. Inconsiderate barstewards!!

Vx220 is sooooooo ugly, would be an elise over one for sure.
You would get a decent spec/BHP Evo due to current prices.

Track or all round car?

I'm not a fan of the s2000, I personally think it looks a bit girly.

As for the VX220 I do prefer the looks of the elise, but I just remember seeing clarkson on top Gear in a VX Turbo, it looks mental!

I've actually been offered a non Turbo VX on a 53 plate, with only 6k on the clock, its owned by someone I know who is scared to go out in it for

as for ugly cars.......

Well, Scoobys and EVOs don't exactly class as pretty do they. If you were that bothered about looks you probably wouldn't have bought an EVO in the first place and i definately wouldn't have bought my sportwagon but seeing as you're more into the engineering.....

I may be wrong but i think Elises carry quite a price premium over VX220's therefore as you're only keeping it short term and from a cost point of view the VX220 would seem easier to shift as it was more affordable and it still does everything as well as the Elise does.

I could be completely wrong though and you could tell me to STFU!! :D

10k buys a load of car !!!

You could get a 350z, DC5 Integra, E46 M3, a good Skyline etc etc.

I'd be careful of the 350z, the 370z is coming out soon so I reckon the price will plummet.

I think if it was me I'd go for the Elise, the BM or a DC5 Integra. Something reliable and not going to cost the earth.

E46 M3 for me. It has the build quality, refinement, right wheel drive and a gorgeous straight six.............but you know all of that. There is no way that I would buy an VX over an Elise, it's almost like buying a F355 kitted MR2 ;)

Tough decision Rob. Loads of smutty cars for that sort of cash

(Porsche 968 CS)
(TVR Cerbera)
(Holden whatever)
(Old school 911)
The list goes on :D

Other than in this case the vx out handles is more refined and more powerfull than the elise of equivalent budget.

How can you say this looks "girly"

http://www.tunerzine.com/articles/36/1.jpg

I would say that was a fair price for the VX already TBH and with some haggling it could be a very good purchase.
If you need an HPI mate let me now
