Mine's running 430 and I wouldn't hesitate to drive it to Scotland and back today (if someone else paid the fuel bill)

Duncan's is another 100bhp and he uses is regularly for long journies.

Reliability isn't a problem if it's not neglected. IMO

Gerry,
Look how much Dunk and yourself have spent on your cars. ! The only reason I mentioned it is because Rob was talking of engine mods, you cant do engine mods without doing anything else on the car eg more power puts more stress on the drivetrain, brakes, suspension etc etc. Dont forget Dunk now trailers his car to the track.
Its just something to think about on a daily driver that the costs might not only be in the engine.

Anythings reliable with enough money thrown at it :D

But agree with you, looking after it will make a difference also.

Rob,
Talk to Gary re the results of the test. Have you done a compression test too.
So the test is showing cylinder gases in the coolant water, but you say that you are getting steam in the engine bay and coolant on the engine.
That would indicate that the gasket is leaking between water jacket/bore and possibly water jacket to atmosphere too. We hope not of course.
Gary is gagging to play with a scooby engine lol http://www.bigpower.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8191

Only to scotland and to the nurburgring cos there was 3 of us camping for a week and I couldnt get all of us in the car with tent and luggage so trailer was the only option.

Drove to Watford in rush hour yesterday, and even in rush hour traffic it is okay to drive. Not as much fun as open roads but heyho.

Have you ran the car up to temp and tried to see where the coolant is escaping as the car gets hot just before the fan cuts in??

Maybe worth a shot before you go silly and get it pulled in pieces!

logan thats what i just suggested in pm,we need to confirm headgasket failure before pulling apart

also reason for such a cost for head gasket is need to remove engine really to make it easy to work on

Can't be 1200 quid to remove and refit the engine, unless you don't know how to
