Righto...

Stripped the boot out - Spare wheel, all trim, Rear wiper etc - a good 20kg perhaps

Stripped the AirCon out, bar the rad - maybe 15kg saved.

Done some poking around... Its running a SARD ECU, and hitting 1.5bar in 5th... would have been a fair amount of load as it was uphill. Hitting 1.0bar in 3rd on flat.

Coilovers are TEIN Sport Spec Type HR's - ???

Its running aftermarket headers, BUT standard down pipe and front pipe with BOTH cats still seemingly inplace.

I'm sure the rattly noise is an exhaust gasket or heatshield. Whilst on the rollers there didnt seem to be any DET or untoward knocking. It ran 274bhp and 227lb/ft... boost peaked around 19.5psi and fueling was quite rich, or safe enough.

pics of todays pish..... Big thanks to Russ at WP for fitting me in this afternoon.

If it has standard down pipe & centre sections and it's an Sti, the d/p will have a cat and the centre a resonator. Getting descent replacements will help and probably get rid of the tinny rattle from the heat shields.

Go for 3" d/p & centre rather than 2 1/2" as it'll save having to replace them again when there's more power :D

You don't need the bonnet scoop with a front mount and it only serves as a parachute at speed anyway. If you watch at anything above 100mph, the bonnet will be flexing. :o

Coming along nicely

yup... plan to get a reverse scoop, or pop an oil cooler where the TMIC used to be.

DP and centre section are high on the list of things to get sorted out... all in time though.

A replacement ecu, something like an Apexi or Simtek and a trip to Andy Forrest, near Edinburgh, would make a big difference too. 8)

Looks very nice 8) definately get the cats removed as those figures aren't very impressive for the amount of boost being produced. By decat alone I would expect an extra 20bhp and torque nearer 250lb

Standard downpipe and midsection doesn't make sense at all with the other mods - items presumably swapped back for standard before the sale. Whatever, it's easy enough to put right

Found some possible causes for ticking noise and power/torque loss....

Tubular manifold is missing a stud where it joins the head. Along with that you can feel blowing from the gasket under light reving. Sourced some new gaskets and studs, and will atempt to sort tomorrow.

Heatsheilds were a bit rattly so just ripped them off (well... unbolted, then persuaded out) and found a hole in the OE downpipe before it meets the HKS cat back sys. Will just bodge repair it now 'till I get my hands on a turbo back 3" system.

Car also seems nice and clean underneith.

will get a thin coat of underseal on it to try and preserve that!

I hope the missing stud is just in need of replacing. I've had to helicoil some of mine where the threads just pulled out.

looking up with the inspection lamp it all looked clean enough. Fingers crossed.

Do you think just simply popping the stud in and tightening will seal it up, or will the gasket be damaged at the point of blowing? I think the later but love an easy fix!
