In which case, sod it. I can wait a couple of years with my 32" 100Hz CRT.

Wish I'd never bothered.

Thanks Francis

They may be here in 2 years, but it'll be 4 years before the price halves...

Anyway, all this bloody talk about TV's?! You should be out there honing your car control, going for a jog to keep tip top, reading fine literature and walking the marvellous Oscar! Sod the telly. That's only there for the times when everything else fails :D

For the sake of spunking the money on a TV, you could enjoy a really nice weekend away with your better half or a few reasonable ones ;)

In two or three years time 30"+ LCD screens will be as commonly used for PC's as 19" and 21" LCD screens are today, plasma screens will be at similar level to LCD's currently, and LEP screen's will be the new plasma screen.

LEP's will be around five to seven years after first commercial wide introduction before we are probably starting to look at holographic screens made up of multilayer LEP type membrane technology embedded into optical quality glass that displays depth and gives a true 3D quality to images without using those funny two colour specs.

As has been said they will be initially prohibitively expensive unless you have extremely deep pockets so i reckon it will be three or four years before any of us will be buying into LEP TV's, so i think having a decent plasma to last you for the next three to five years is a bl00dy good investment and will be worth doing. Remember when Plasma's first came out....
Buggers cancelled my op just a couple of days before it was due. Inconsiderate barstewards!!

Waiting now for another execution date!!:headhack:

I'm inclined to agree with Stu. All a fancy TV will do is present the cr@p programmes better, as Liz keeps reminding me.

I had a little slide around in the Xantia today, on the ice, but you can't do handbrake turns when the h/brake operates on the front wheels :(

The joggers around here look half dead as they trot along red-faced and panting and anyway, it's almost impossible to light a fag on the move.

As for the 'fine' literature, it's mostly looking at the pictures :D

Oscar gets his two walks a day which, at the pace he moves, can hardly be called exercise for either of us

And, funnily enough, I am treating Liz to a night out this weekend. At Brands Hatch and the B19 awards :D

So, with all your criteria met, I could buy a telly :)

Having spent a week watching the big telly I would say if you watch mostly standard definition there's an argument for keeping CRT ... IF you have the space for the hulking great thing and if you've not spent any time watching a bigger screen yet (in which case your 32" will look small). With 28" 100Hz we didn't really notice the quality difference between different sky channels but now it's quite obvious. Will get SkyHD and BluRay before too long, but that will accentuate the quality difference further!

Only problem is I now want to replace my dodgy old 5.1 amp with 7.1, more speakers of course and BluRay, which will exceed the cost of the telly
