If your TV would have made The 39 Steps more interesting it would be well worth it. This BBC production bore so little of the orginal story, they could have given it another title and no-one would be any the wiser.

Tanya and I have been working our way through Dexter and The West Wing. Both great American TV shows to the uninitiated. Very little 'real TV' that I'll watch as the combined adverts, old programmes and generally poor broadcasting quality drives me insane.

All immeasurably better on a plasma though Gerry.

Top gear was ace you missed a good one, although no cars involved. Once my current old technology rear projector packs in i will be in the hunt for an upgrade too.

That Samsung is definitely showing as a resolution of 1024 by 768 on all the sites I have come across. It will show 1080 pictures but surely only in 1080i mode ?

However I dont have the tv so if the others can verify then it in a blooming good deal !!

The thing is with the Samsung tvs they bring a new generation out every 6 months so I wouldnt be suprised if it does do it but wasnt branded.

I know what you mean Gerry, went through the same process a few years ago, the more research i did the more confused I got.
Finally bought a copy of What HiFi magazine, and read a review on type of TV I wanted and went with their best buy option.
Probably very out of date now, but I still think it's great now, and never get bored of the ambilight feature.

Have patio doors on adjacent wall so want minimum reflections. At the moment we watch Sky+ mostly, but want a tv that will work well with Sky HD once we get it (will probably be a while...)

We have a 40"Samsung LCD digital tv with buit in freeview that we have had for 2 years now, it is in the corner of the room next to a big french door, and it is fine, very good tele, good picture quality but the freeview goes jam up now and again when changing channels.
for a 2 year old unit I cant complain at all, although as Stuart says the prices have fallen so much from what we paid for them.
But when it eventually pops it clogs I would get a freesat version, as we dont have Sky and to be honest I dont rearly watch that much tv to justify having Sky but the boys now want it for the cartoon channels so we may have another box under the tele soon :roll:

Go to John Lewis, get them to price match and then you'll get a free 5 year warrenty and free delivery - A fantastic TV .. can't fault it at all .. I have the older model and it's been great.

Top recommendations Stu and Ben. Went shopping today, looked at LCD and Plasma, and persuaded Lucy that 42" would be better than 37" (fairly narrow living room, 8' viewing distance) :-D Spent the evening being amazed by everything we fed to it :-D Finished the evening off with some of the Fast and Furious on DVD

Has already got me thinking about Sky HD (bike racing in HD would be awesome) and Blu Ray ...

Bought at Richer Sounds as JL were out of stock. Shop price is 500 now, but they do it for the web price of 470 no problem.
