MR2 reverse gear

Post by Daniel »

Hello,

just a quick question for those who have (or have had) MR2s. Does (or did) your reverse gear take a couple of attempts to get it in, some days i engage reverse then as i try to drive back the gear makes a grrrrr noise then i have to put it into neutral then engage again and it makes a klunk sound. :?

please don't tell me that gear's knackered

oh also worth mentioning that once the gear's in it does reverse with no problems.

cheers

Don't know about MR2s in particular but in general:

Reverse doesn't have synchro so it doesn't engage as easily as the forward gears. Try waiting a moment, after depressing the clutch, before trying to engage, to give the gears a chance to come to a halt. If it's still reluctant, select neutral and lift the clutch for a mo and try again.

Reverse gears are straight cut not helical, like the others and there's only a chamfer on the leading edge to assist engagement. Be gentle :D
