Wanting to fit an induction kit

So i want to fit a proper induction kit to the MR2 to unleash that lovely throaty sound instead of a muffled grrr. (and yes i will be buying a proper kit, not a halfords one) Now being honest i haven't got the faintest clue about ECU cars. When i fit a kit, will it require a tune up? i'm guessing yes but again i don't know wether ECUs adjust themselves or not? :?

It depends on what you mean by proper kit, I have a K & N on mine which is currently sitting on the original box, does mean at present it is pulling air from the engine compartment but I will be boxing it in and either pulling cold air from the side vent or by a a scoop. When I fitted it I did nothing with the ECU and have not had any problems and it sound cool. If you want to have a look and a listen your more than welcome.

Yeah that's exactly what i want to do. By proper kit i mean the ones that include a pipe rather then a filter slapped straight on to the engine. :thumb:

so did you notice any difference in performance? i should imagine that the pickup is increased with less restriction :-k

Nah it shouldnt mate, most cars can cope with induction kits. You arent getting loads of power with one anyway.

If they arent ducted properly they can suck more hot air from the enginebay which can than reduce the power than increase it.

Now normally a 'hot sucker' is a good thing :lol: but not necessarily in cars !!!

yeah the kit would only give marginal figures as did with the mini, but it's that lovely sound it gives off that does it for me

It's a probably a bit quicker but nothing enormous, Sound great though got this great sucking noise when you give it some beans, does mean you drive along tapping the throttle to make it suck
I have a rubber pipe on mine but nothing spectacular connecting it to the engine, you will need to put a hole in the filter base to fit a sensor in and one in the pipe to take the breather from the engine although you can put a separate filter on this but not keen on that.

Like I said your more than welcome to have a look, not sure how I'm going to box it in yet till I decide on whether to put a scoop on or not.
