So much for bloody Japanese reliability!
After spending my intended funds for 4 wheel alignment last month on a new radiator because the plastic side part split unexpectedly, I thought my old Subaru might behave itself in the cooling department for a little while.....but oh no!
Got home today and it's now decided to have another coolant leak, I think from around the water pump area, but it was dark, and all I could see was where the water seemed to be running from, and not where it was actually coming out of. It was not spurting (oer missus), so did nt seem under much pressure.
Hopefully it's just a hose, but bloody hell, when will I spend some money on fun stuff??
If on the off chance this could be the pre-cursor to soemthing more serious, feel free to offer kind words of support
Once again lady luck kicks me in the nads!(Gently it seems)
Have a look in the daylight mate. At least you know what to start swearing about then.
All will be well. There are plenty of clever Subaru shaped people on here to help.

Shame you didn't say anything Rob. I've just bought an ali rad and the one it's replacing isn't that old.
If it is the pump, I have one here I can give to Stu on Thursday.
BTW what are you calling the water pump area?

Handle every stressful situation like a dog. If you can't eat it or hump it, piss on it and walk away!
I think there's nothing for it, but to rip it out and replace it with a 2.5 lump with a monster turbo, just to be sure it's all ship shape
The boxer configuration has me scratching my head, but as you say, daylight will help no end!
PS Still grining from Saturday, been boring everyone to tears with tales of Snetterton today

@ Gerry,
As you look into the bonnet area, inside the left top corner of the radiator, near the front branch of the plenum, there's a coolant hose going down at a vertical angle, about 1 1/2" thick. As I said, I am totally new to boxers, so this is pure guess work as to what part is what. I'll try and find a picture.......

Well the only thing that fits your 1 1/2" dia pipe description is the rad top hose which comes off the top l/h corner of the rad and connects to a cast ali tube. This travels under the inlet maNIFOLD (PLENUM) AND BOLTS TO THE REAR OF THE ENGINE BLOCK WITH AN 'o' RING SEAL. (Sorry about the sudden caps, must have hit caps lock by mistake).
Anyway, the water pump is behind the large black plastic cover at the front of the engine, which house the timing belt, timing gears and pump.
Like you said, daylight may reveal more.

Compared to some (as in many), I know very little. Years of discovering you've bought stuff for a different MY is a good teacher
