IWANT1, it is not road legal anymore, no, it is strictly for competition use. I used to run it on the road before I went fully modified. It was always fun to waste all the people with bigger and more impressive cars. If your passing through and want to pop in I am around at weekends and in the evenings.
You want bedtime reading, well the list of modifications is enormous, the only parts on the car that have not been modified yet are the windscreen and the door handles!
Lets start with the engine as I guess that what will interest most people.
Its a 3 cylinder twin cam turbocharged motor, as standard from the factory they produced 100bhp from the 993cc capacity.
My engine is now 998cc.
The head has been fully ported, polished and flowed and the inlet manifold has had the same treatment. Its not possible to fit larger valves into the heads, so the valves are OEM items. At the moment the cams in the engine are DRS (Daihatsu Racing Service) items. I have got a pair of billet cams which are going into my next engine, they were made by Ivan Tighe in Australia. The bottom end is fully lightened and balanced including all the rods and flywheel etc. The IHI turbo is one of only two ever made to the spec, they were made for a stillborn Cossie Mondeo that never went into production. They are similar to those found on a Noble GTO3 but not identical. I had a stainless exhaust manifold and full system made by Hayward & Scott, they also made me my 'crane' to support the turbo and to stop it moving under extreme heat. The injectors, fuel pressure regulator and the throttle body are all from a Sierra Cosworth, the injectors being uprated 'light blue' 440cc items.
The engine is fitted with a Davies Craig EWP which flows the coolant through a custom Serck radiator. The charge is cooled in a Pace RS500 intercooler which is fitted with a DEI Cryo2 chiller system.
Power is transmitted via a three puck clutch into the custom gearbox which is filled with Albins gears from Australia, these are close ratio items and limit the car to a top speed of just over 100mph. The LSD is a Gripper Diff with adjustable plates. The driveshafts are uprated items made by Reco-Prop and the hubs are OEM, but have been modified to carry the AP calipers.
Up front the car has 280mm vented discs with big AP four pots and the rear of the car is fitted with two pot AP's from the front of a Lotus Elise.
Fuel is pumped fromt he modified tank with a Walbro 255l/h pump unit.
The car is fully poly bushed, including the engine mounts and the steering rack. The suspension is custom made LEdA items.
The car is fitted with an original Works rollcage and the glass has been replaced with plastic.
Loads of photos on the website to get you interested, looking forward to coming and outrunning some of you big guns on the shorter circuits or the 1/4m
