Overfueling on 200sx s13 CA18det

Post by MikeP »

Just finished rebuilding my sons 200 ran fine for about a week in and around doors. However my son got 3 miles down the road and first a cough then a splutter then it dropped down to 2500rpm and couldnt go any higher. Definitely overfueling, symptons are as follows,

1) eratic idle very lumpy and cuts out

2) strong smell of overfueling at exhaust and sparks fouled

3)Lumpy and misfires on fast idle and strugles to build revs lucky to get it up to 2000rpm

Basically choking itself suspect it is air fuel meter. Somebody with more in depth knowledge of the ca18det may be able to help. does anybody have any idea what it might be thanks Mick

Sounds like the symptoms i got when i blew an intercooler hose off. Check for boost leaks, take of any dump valves etc... and check all the little vac pipes like the one under the front of the inlet plenum and the feed for the fuel pressure regulator and hot start solonoid (if youve not binned it)

You can check the AFM with a multimeter should idle at 1v upto 5v at full revs IIRC.

Not having the dropping resistor earthed properley can also cause grief.

If your still stumped im only up the road in runton id be happy to come take a look.
