bore gauge?

Post by alexb »

Hi All,

Does anyone have a bore gauge I could borrow in exchange for some beer tokens, or if I could bring my wheel along to get measured?

I need to do this:

That clock won't give you a bore diameter measurement. It can only measure difference or deflection, i.e ovality & taper.

To measure bore, you need an internal micrometer or a spring loaded bore guage that can be locked and then measured with an external micrometer, or vernier caliper.

Gotcha, it needs to be calibrated to a known measurement first (which is the bit I don't know...)

Anyone able to help me measure the blimmin' hole then? ;)

Cheers,
Alex

I have the gear but miles away. I can fetch it to Snetterton next Saturday, but any engineering co. should have similar.

What are you trying to measure?

I can measure that with a vernier Alex.
What is it you re trying to establish? Wheel bore size to purchase new wheels or bore size for spacers or something else?
It is painted so will measure smaller than the original machined hole.

You'd have difficulty getting a vernier caliper into that wheel centre Eddy as it's recessed.

Thanks for the comments guys.

Yeah Eddie I need to fit spigot rings with those wheels (they're the same as are in the photo) so I need to know what the outside diameter of the ring should be.

Cheers,
Alex

Eddy, thinking about it your vernier may be fine, the bore can be measured from the back of the wheel so I reckon it should fit. What do you think?

Cheers,
Alex
