Dunk, you are totally missing the point. You are well and truly entitled to your opinion (even if it is blinkered and wrong :) ) I know lots of people that wouldn't touch a Japanese cars for the same reason.

The way that I see it, there are many differing types of cars that can all be enjoyed in their own right. I would wager that I, and many people on this forum, could get the same amount of fun from say an American car as any other, it would just be in a different format. I find it impossible to generalise to the point that I would exclude a specific nations cars as every single country that currently manufactured cars has also manufactured duff ones.

In my book, something like an American car would serve the purpose of putting a bloody great grin all over my face thanks to its awesome noise, superb road presence, torque that would flatten most modern cars, individuality, reliability etc etc regardless of the speed at which it was driven.

Day to day driving is far more than hustling the mode of transport I happen to be driving as quickly as possible, squirting between gears and clipping apexes. In the right car I would love that style of driving. In a car that had other strengths and weaknesses I would adapt my driving style. Simple.

Nice finds Fil. Not sure if I would want something quite so extreme as that Daytona, although I did giggle when I saw it. I do like the idea of an occasional fun car for the road and something that could devour the quarter mile when given its legs.

I should add that this thread is largely pissing in the wind. Monies prohibit any self indulgences like this, and will do for a while. No harm in looking though :)

Yeah and normally I am in the same thoughts as you Dunk but I do actually love the old American cars.

The sound of a V8, enough torque to shake a stick at and put into a big fat wide bodyshell is the whol character of an old American Classic.

But in terms of a track car then I wouldnt bother, Drag yes, Track no. Not unless you are prepared to put in a lot of work like Bigfil has.

This is one of my faves but then I did like Knight Rider:

It feels nice to post on here without getting ridiculed like I normally do about not liking stuff :D

i have to be honest here, i really really used to be into muscle cars, but like duncan i can't see the point anymore. I agree some of the classics like the 67' stingray are lovely cars but you get ones like the pontiac above where the front looks like it's been snorting too much cocaine

give me an austin healey 3000 anyday :) but of course it's my opinion, so if you've got the cash and like the car Stu, go for it.
