I think that each style of event has its own merits;

Arrive and drive is fine for those that want to dip their toe in the water or just have a laugh for peanuts.

Dedicated trackdays are superb for those that know that they are already bitten by the bug and will inevitably be out there all day if they can :lol:

We have nearly a thousand registered users (approx) I reckon less than a quarter already take part in 'trackdays', instead they get their kicks from drifting, sprints or drag racing. If a forum as focused as ours has numbers like that, surely that proves the need for beginners style events?

Sorry if i'm a little off topic here but
As a new member to this forum some of the comments made do very little to calm the nerves of someone who is hoping to take on their track day ideal. I have no intention of hacking around a track endangering other members or their cars, but i do have to learn somewhere. I'm just a bit confused as to where? You guys seem to have very opposing opinions. I'm confused!

Mate sorry if my ideas have worried you at .
If you want to test the H20 the day on the 7th could well be a good place to start as you wont be under pressure for a day.
You will find that there are several types of track days on offer from various people and lots of people have a idea of what they like.
Just like life we are all not the same .
If you go on the 7th to say Snetterton or one of the other dates i think there is one at Brands as well at the end of December if i was you i would try to get some passenger laps from a experienced driver, then go out in you car a bit later.
Also grab some tuition that is on offer you can never learn too much.
Above all just enjoy yourself on the day. :thumb:

If Jon wants to do the Arrive and Drive at Snett on the 7th, could he come along on the 6th, pay his tenner and have some pax laps?

It would give him a taste of the atmosphere and a good insight into the track and lines. Thus, he'd be prepared for his first track driving experience.

Jon, there really is nothing to worry about, you can go as fast or as slow as you like on a trackday, no need to feel pressured, and as said get some tuition and go out with a couple of people as a passenger.

I did my first ever trackday in August at Cadwell and had a great time.

Are we in danger of becoming slightly snobbish with reference to virgin track drivers. How many of us on our first track day had tuition, how many of us on our first track day were quick, how many of us on our first track day knew the racing lines of a new track. All these things come from experience and are part of the learning curve and fun.

When you're out driving on the public road and you come up behind a learner do you tailgate them, hassle them, or give them room and time. Do you swear at them for stalling or breaking suddenly or do you anticipate what they migjt do and drive accordingly.

Track days are not about getting the fastest lap, that's motorsport and not what track days are for. If there are slower cars or novices out on track then surely as more experienced drivers we should give them a little space we should be able to read the situation and decided early at what point we are going to pass them and not expect with a snobby attitude for them to through themselves off the track to make way for us.

Arrive and drive track days are a good idea for people who want to try it for the first time but are also useful to others who simply want to do some testing of their track cars. Therefore there will be a mix.

If the track is full of street racers throwing themselves into the kitty litter at every bend so be it, it's a learning curve and better they do it on a track than on the public road.

Very good points.
Perhaps this is a topic for seperate debate.
We all know that at in the initial briefing the organisers ask who has not been on track before.
Perhaps these people should be encouraged either foc or for a nominal charge to have an initial session with an instructor. Then any dangerous drivers can be identified and sorted immediately.
I am sure that the organisers of such events are aware of this and act accordingly anyway.
