I didn't enjoy this very much at all. At the briefing they said that if the standard of driving is good enough, they'll switch to opl. After the first two sessions, that is what they did.
My first session, on a wet, slippery track, with new F1 Assymetrics on the front and worn RE050A on the back seemed to be going OK. I passed a couple of cars and was settling down when I spun at Beckets. No drama, just steered backwards away from the following cars and onto the grass.
The engine was still running so I just drove off as though nothing had happened. Came into the pits, checked the car over and went out again. Couple of laps and then spun at the end of the pit straight going into Copse. This corner is much faster and the car revolved a couple of times before I could get some control. I tried the usual catch it by steering with the rotation to try to regain some grip but it wasn't having it. Fortunately the run-offs are massive so only my pride was dented
The National circuit is the old Club circuit with Luffield and a slowed down Woodcote. It's not a patch on the GP which has wet grip in all but the National section. We were told that there had been a classic meet in the previous week and there was more oil spilled and dropped than retained in their sumps. :roll:
