My first Integra DC2 'VTEC' experience !!

Just kidding mate you are spot on with your comments, the RX7 is a superb car but because of the engine it is more sensitive to fueling, induction and heat (that it produces a heck of) we tend to always be watching the gauges. But I guess all the turbo marques are like that eg Skyline, Supra, Scooby etc.

Alex, I'm sure the VTEC kicked in later than that on the Integra ? But even though the Civic is a 1.6 and the Integra is a 1.8, the Civics 0-60 time is about a second quicker, must be a heck of a lot lighter ?

I know the car wasnt as quick as the RX7 and that would murder it in a straight line but the DC2 felt a better setup car down a small, bumpy country road.

There are other cars I want to look at but the main reason for looking is to find a car that is cheaper to run, is a smooth drive but can still give a big grin when you want it to !!!

see this is also the same problem im facing, i really like the DC2, had a few laps in a stock car on a track day and they are very capable cars!

however i just wonder if for day to day driving it would be any good?

I know you cant compare a turbo car to an NA car but im just worried about the lack of pace.

then again RX7s are on my list as well lol

The reason I wrote my bit up there is , I was like 'RX7' overawed by the car initially but it soon wears off , when you do your daily drive . Most of my daily drive is on A roads and Motorways and this is where it gets boring .. on a track , in lanes , b roads, its a different car

My View of the DC2 ( IMHO only)

+ points

Reliable ! ( a great bonus if you own a Skyline , RX7, S15 etc)
Cheap to Maintain
Cheap to Insure
Handling
Reliability ( yes its in here twice cos it deserves it)

And they great in the winter and wet roads

- points

Can drink petrol ( when driving in the high rev bands)
only comes alive in VTEC
crap interior
FWD
NA
feels 'under powered' compared to other cars

Gareth if you get fed up with your Rex maybe we should consider a PX

however if I was looking to downsize from a GTR / RX or similar in hindsight I would choose a S15

PS Alexb your right about them not overheating when static or trapped in traffic.

Haha yeah it's an old rustbucket!

Was that one stock? Mine's got a Spoon ECU, one of the features is a lowered VTEC engagement point.

Just comparing specs:

DC2: 190PS, 1120kg
EK9: 185PS, 980kg-1070kg depending on spec

Oh, checked my fuel consumption the other day, mix of town and country driving = 39mpg

try getting that in the Rex!

Also G, there's a (in)famously quick EK9 0-60 time that gets quoted a lot, I seriously doubt it's really a second quicker than the DC2's.

I *think* it was recorded by Performance Car once but has never been replicated by a magazine etc.

Lots of people ask if i miss my skyline after buying the civic and to be honest the only thing i miss is all the people that stare and point or ask " is that a real skyline mate". Yes i loved the power but it wasn,t a car i could really get the most from on my favourite local roads (country lanes and B roads). In my own opinion the civic is more fun for me and i don,t worry about how much it may cost if it ever went bang. I love the v-tec scream every time. Fun, reliable and cheap to run :-D Alex wheres your v-tec point now??

If you're liking the Type R's, don't discount the Accord Type R. The most forgotten and probably the most capable.

Accord Type R is a nice car but it has 4 doors and I'd rather a coupe.

I'm with Darren on the skyline being a bit of a handful .. but then it's all about the set up and the tires ...

I did have a rather spirited drive along some nicely curvey coast roads a few weeks back - weather was dry and it was quite warm .... I admit I went for it - my passenger who is a biker .. remarked when we finished that they would never have believed a car could be quicker through that road than a bike (I never admitted that my speedo is reading in KM's even though it says MPH

) - but it was the first time that I really did push the GTR on a b-road. My new Teins go on next week, then i'm going to get my hands in some new rubber

But do like the idea of a teg or an EK9.

had one for years and I cannot get excited about them , just a reliable motor unlike some jap cars I own a good 'second' car or runabout

:lol: DC2s are great. I'd love a slagged one, just because it's a FWD doesn't mean it'll be slow.
