I have calmed down enough now to explain a bit more of what happened the weekend, started off putting up the temporary spray booth again

Then I sprayed the top coat of blue and started to get a reaction that looked like this

Image

I had no indication on the previous coats of primer that anything may be wrong, all the 2 pack paint was purchased at the same supplier to make sure it was compatible - when I peeled off the paint it went right back to the bare metal so I can only assume I hadn't cleaned the metal well enough before putting on the etch primer

The next stage was to sand down the paint where it had reacted and mask up the paint that looked OK

Next was to put on the primer again after making sure all the panels were completely cleaned

I will attack the top coat again when I have enough time to do it and keep my fingers crossed that this time I have got it right or you will probably hear the screaming and swearing!!!

I bet you where fuming mate.

At least you got it back to where you started again. Are you going to get some new paint just incase it happens again?

I will stick with the same paint as I think if this was the problem then the whole car would have lifted and the paint that has stuck looks good, I am looking to spray again on Saturday so I will find out then - fingers crossed

I can't say it's any where near what I hoped it would be but it is nearly all blue!! I think once I get the interior started it will cover a multitude of sins and will look OK.

Anyway it is what it is and to be honest I am at a stage where I just haven't got the motivation to do anymore with the paint

I have got some guys coming round to look at putting some carpets in the front and in the floor of the boot so I will let you all know how that goes as and when it happens

I honestly cannot see anything wrong with that at all.........maybe I shouldn't be working in a bodyshop

I think that looks quite amazing Fil and certainly impressive considering that you have done this all yourself and at home (with admittedly good facilities) By the time that all comes together with the trim, interior, carbon seats and the like....stunning 8)

I have to agree with Stu, I can't see anything wrong with it.

Once it starts coming together you will wonder why you were worrying :)

Looks stunning already, and I am sure it will be even better when it's finished. :thumb:

Thanks guys, I was selective on the photos I posted - you can't spot the bad bits. I think spending so much time on every bit of paint I know exactly where all the blemishes are, crazy paving, runs, orange peel etc. The more I tried to put it right the more places I was going through to the primer so I decided to leave well alone. It will be OK to look at .........just not too closely!!

Thats the trouble with doing anything yourself, you know exactly where to look for blemishes/bits not fitting right etc and can spot things most people cant.

From the pics it looks superb and I think when some of the bits are back in you wont notice them.

Cant wait to see the finished article, must be getting there now !
