[quote="Area 52 Autosport"]Our up pipe drops from circa 60 to under 50mm (50mm will easily flow 500hp). The test pipe is not exactly how I want it, but for now it will do for R&D. It will certainly improve spool, by how much we will have to wait and see.
ScoobieWRX, do you have logging/dyno software (and boost/WB/EGT)? You need to find whereabouts you lie within the boost/ign/afr love triangle

You may be able to run a little more timing at the expense of boost (for instance). It's quite surprising what can be gained with a little experimentation. Admittedly, what you can do (or gain) with stock like cars is rather limited.
If you have a spare boost gauge try fitting it pre-intercooler. I think you will find the results interesting. We usually run 3 gauges - pre & post IC and the other in the exhaust manifold. Vacuum on the inlet if you want to go all out. They give a great insight into the dynamics of the engine (and respective ancillaries) breathing.
Anyway, lag is easy to overcome... just increase operational rpm - no laptop needed ]
Hehehe.....I always have my manually operated analog RPM control device ready for action. Never lets me down and always happy to compensate
I would definately be interested in hearing more about the results you get with your uppipe as and when you get more data. Something like that with a 3-bolt flange sounds just like what standard engines need for better spool up off a set of GT Spec headers. If i had bought 2 bolt headers i would probably have kept my Zen Performance uppipe and used that to very good effect. It ran really well on my TD04 and spoolup was really early but petered out between 5500-6000rpm
In the meantime i stick with the larger uppipe and just keep chipping away at the mapping and do plenty of logging. Hot weather doesn't help but then when did it ever on turbo cars. Come the winter i have no doubts boost will be right up there but ultimately the best way to get more power at the stage my engine is at is a bigger turbo and bigger injectors. No 2 ways about it.
I think probably to keep intake temps down i will have to invest in an IC spray and and get one of these methanol injection systems but again it's all about the money.
Thanks for the advice Jase, much appreciated :thumb:
