not that i can find, the only things i really can think that are wrong, are the pump i have just got is broken at well (got it from a brakers place) or the pas fluid in there is no good, it is a funng brown colour, so could be worth draining the whole system

so some more up dates.
been out this morning, I have taken the pas lines off the steering rack, and fully bled the system.
refilled, and bled it again.
started off pas was working, then it got harder, then stopted working again.
then if i reved the engine, the pas started to work.
when engine was up to working temp, the pas did not work at all, even when reved.
sounds like a dodgy pump again?

From your description of the fluid, I'd be inclined to drain it all, through to and including the rack and replace with new. It starts out a red colour and yours sounds as though it's been overheated or maybe has water contamination which may explain why it stops working as it heats up. That's all guesswork but a cheap(er) option.

done that, unbolted the 2 lines from the rack, and did lock to lock to get it all out.
the fluid does feel fairly warm to the touch, but the engine is up to temp as well.
what is the correct fluid that i need to use? dexron, 1,2,3 etc?
anyone want to give me a hand sorting it out?

I have got another pump hopefully coming tomorrow from central subaru. He said it is on a car they have got into brake, and will test it out to make sure it is working, with hot and cold engine.
hopefully this will sort my problem out.
if it does not, where else can i look? the rack maybe?
i am using Dexron III fluid, Welshes subaru garage near cambridge said Dexron II was the fluid that i should be using??
