Just back from Pembrey. Proper ballsy circuit if very flat... three bottle testers including a great combination of quick, 4th gear in evo, corners.
Day 1 1 2/3rds laps (like Lydden) Day 2 just the 2/3rds which kept the turns but lost long straight and one bottle tester.
Four in class on Sat and I think won by about 3 secs. I say 'think' because the meet was a shambles. Late starting, one class had to have last timed run on Sun and no final results by mid afternoon Sun...
Sunday I left after first timed run as Wales is a long way from Cambridge - 5 hours-ish - and I was in lead by 5/10th from Saturday's class p2 Impreza. I think I must have had more grunt than him for the straight which was missed on Sun.
No results so far on slow update website so probably will remain a mystery for a while. Still object of exercise achieved as I was only SBD starter in class so took 2 'wins'.
I loved the track but it had me mystified. On all but one run I improved my time but only by tenths. Usually at a 'new' circuit you knock lumps of time off but even though I was gaining confidence and pushing harder times crept down.
Other cars went slower as the very hot Saturday went on so maybe that is cause but it had me foxed. I hung it all out on final run and thought I was off a couple of times on the exit of fast sweeps and knocked just 3/100ths off...
Could be track or the timing as I think the lack of results was down to timing 'issues' which is a problem to most of us. Race control was very tight lipped about it all.
I'd recommend a visit as it is proper quick and a real test but budget for a

hehehe. Being serious I reckon the tyres are pretty good, but they weren't the big wow I was expecting but I suppose its hard to tell if they are that much better than the old tyres. Be interesting to see what my times are like at Debden as I know the track and if its dry it should show whether I'm quicker or not. Maybe a more experienced man like yourself could tell more of a difference? But as you were saying, its not like you can take the tyres back if you don't like them.
Be good to see some pictures of the location and machinery.
See you Saturday.

Looked in to 070s and two things worry me - 10mm less width and, critically, W speed rating. The 050s are Y. I am worried about insurance cover should I shunt on W rated tyres when OE spec is Y.
Also everything I have read says 70s are poor in the wet. As carrying four spares is a pain and we live in climate change UK I reckon more of an all rounder could be a better option.
Still pondering... especially as I might have to buy this set!

I don't think teh 10mm less is a mssive issue as the profile of the 070 is really square so i reckon if you lined them up next to a goodyear etc they would look as wide as the 235.
As for the speed rating, yes I agree that could be an issue. Luckily for me the Evo 6 is a W rated as standard.
I think some nice Nankangs are what you want
