I was on car washing duties today and i've had to clean both cars so not had a chance to do anything mechanical apart from reinstalling the
CG-Locks on the seat belts which only took all of two mins :D

I'll take a look tomorrow and see what i can see. It may well be in the end but not just yet that i'll have to get an uprated paddle or multi-plate based clutch kit and probably a litghtened flywheel. Those Fidanza flywheels look very good.

For now i'll just take it easy and nurse the clutch for a while. No full bore standing starts or anything like that ;) as it's got to get me to Scotland and back very soon :thumb:

Cheers Chaps :D

I'm talking to Hazel about that one at the moment. If i get there it will be a lastminute.com affair and hopefully Duncan/Stuart will squeeze me in at very short notice but i don't want to put my name down and then not turn up.

Funds are a deciding factor too Gerry and we are that brasso at the moment due to the amount of cost involved getting the car back on the road we are having to watch the pennies very carefully and juggle finances around but we'll see what turns up although i would dearly love to be there.

I go to Scotland back end of the first week in June. If it gets me there and back there's a good chance it will get through a track day. Fingers crossed :D

Got my harnesses in today and my new harness pads care of Fast Eddy!!

Excellent they are too, write-up to follow on those on Product reviews later :D

Well...........

By christ the old boy is quick compared to before :o I have been doing some mapping and managed to take some logs today. Did all the calculations and was able to plot a 3rd gear Dyno graph today of estimated power output.

The below pic is indicates WHP/Torque (285/269) not BHP at the Flywheel.
I guesstimate the Flywheel BHP/Torque after 22% drivetrain losses to be somewhere around (348/328). I think that's not far off max power from the VF35, and it's boosting 19.5psi at the mo. I think i might be able to squeeze a bit more safe boost out of it (20-21psi) and that will be it unless someone tells me it will go a bit higher than that safely.

Image

I have to say power delivery is very smooth and it drives really nicely at lower revs pootling around town however, I'm looking for another 10-20bhp at the fly and then i'll be truly happy.......for the moment ;) :D:D:D

More mapping to come :thumb:

Got back from Scotland last night and the car performed very well on the motorway and country roads of Bonny Scotland.

Ran faultlessly but really doesn't like Shell V-Power so much. Seems to run much better on Tesco 99RON with better throttle response and MPG. Averaged 25mpg on the way up with a full tank of 99RON, then next stop i had to fill up with Shell and averaged 23mpg at the same 80-85mph and clearer roads. Bit more hilly though and maybe that made a difference but 5th gear practically all the way as per 1st leg.

Drivers of much exotic machinery were somewhat surprised at my meagre and fully laden WRX on the way back, easily keeping up with and then swiftly passing at many leptons on quiet stretches of deserted M'way which was very satisfying from our point of view although a bit noisy as the exhaust was going at full chat!!

The five speed box definately has some advantages when cruising not requiring a downchange to overtake cars from 3000rpm onwards. Very nice!!

Replaced the turbo to intercooler hose as it required changing. The original hose popped off due to having frayed edges, and the clips were really crap so no surprises there.

Many thanks to AWD Motorsport in Perth (Scooby Heaven) for selling me a used hose they had attached to an old intercooler for

What driveshaft issues are they, Francis?

I had to replace both nearside and offside gearbox side CV joint boots, so to effect a replacement the knuckle, housing etc..., at the end of the shaft has to be taken out of the CV joint housing, then taken apart to take the boot off, it has to be cleaned up as there is a lot of grease inside the boot and housing that has to be replaced, then you put the new boot on, refill with grease, put the CV joint knuckle back on and put back into the housing. In the housing there is a wire clip that has to go on a certain way. When i took these clips out they were mangled and impossible to see how they went back on so i reshaped the clips and put them back the way i thought they would go.

I have looked in the workshop manual, and scoured the internet for photos of how the clips go back in but no joy. I even asked the Subaru garage how the clips go back in but they were clueless as they have rarely had to do one so with the clips installed the way i have done them they have been noisy and knocking like the clappers, especially off load and going over certain sharp bumps on the road, even louder knocking turning over bumps.

Making right hand turns seems to create some kind of rumbling through the car but left hand turns are quieter. Suffice to say 1500 miles later the knocking is getting worse, especially after being put through some loads like when dropping a gear and overtaking. thereafter they clonk like mad so i am not risking putting lots of load on them via a trackday and completely braking down. The car has been off the road for quite a while and i've only just got it back on the road so i don't want to go there again.

The subauru mechanic that came out with me said it sounded like they were knocking inside the CV joint housing as if they were badly worn. If they weren't worn then they will be now!!

That's my driveshaft issues and it looks like i will probably have to get Grade-A to send me 2 used but complete driveshafts, with boots and everything else so i can just replace the whole thing without taking the driveshafts apart, but that's dosh i haven't got right now.

That's my driveshaft problems!!
