have you run with out a thermostat before mate and if so what were differences in temperature
as were did that and found that the water was hotter because it was not in the rad long enuf to cool down?

Stu how gary getting on with his evo will it be at silverstone?
Yeah, it made a huge difference, took ages to warm up mind.

Ran with 72 degree thermostat and the rad was working pretty well, too well, thus closing the stat, then cause a heat purge.

No Stat previously made the temp changes more linear rather than stepped.

Still were still confident we should be there!
Run it in the Northern way Mike

Build it up from the minute it starts, gradually increasing revs and boost (3rd gear works for me, 30mph to 50 to 30, 30 to 60 to 30, 30 to 70 to 30, etc etc) as the mileage increases, and by the time you have 60 miles on the clock, your ready for full boost and WOT.

Only time i have had a problem with an engine is when it has been run in another way!

Steven, Like the sound of that!

Mike and I had planned to do shifts through Friday night to get it run in and ready for mapping Saturday.

Seriously, this is a much quicker way of doing, it and having stripped the several engines that have been run in this way, there has never been a problem with the rings or bearings.

30 to 50 to 30 is part throttle to 50 then closed throttle no brakes to 30, then repeat.

I cant be bothered with this treat em gentle approach for a 1000 mile crap, its going to have the crap beaten out of it, so why not teach it that way from the start :D ;)

Barrie, i will see you and George tonight with the other car.

I went to do something simple on my car last night, ie fill the oil, and for some reason, found myself 30 minutes later with the whole front end off, intercooler out, rad out, and now a shit load of work to do!!!

That's similar to how I was told to run in my rebuild. Alternate between 0.5bar and vacuum. That's not as jerky as it sounds especially at 70 in fifth. Steve Simpson reckons he takes a couple of hours to run an engine in, on the rollers.

Both my car and the grey Lateral car, have had oil changes to full synthetic at 60 miles before.

The engine in the grey car, did 40 road miles before it went on track at knockhill last year, it runs as sweet as a nut and doesnt use a drop of oil, except when it pushes it out of the catch can on long high g right handers :D

Quick Update

Post by neilK »

Mike's car is up and running, the Guys at Mocom, inc Frayz worked on it untill gone 4.00am last night. 8)

I'm just off to collect it and start the running in, we will be following Zak's running in procedure as he is the engine builder.
Lots of Red Bull on board it's going to be a long night!

Ps This is the good news, the bad news is Mike is currently stranded in Germany!
