Will be back online soon with a new console and username. Looking forward to eight of us lining up for some racing. I expect the banter to be nothing short of legendary. We'll see how good you are now Millets. :loser:

Yeah yeah we'll see Mr Staples !! I remember matching you on PGR so I reckon I will be ok !! Plus I wont actually be in my car !!

I will expect lots of banter and some people playing dirty tricks like pushing cars off the track (just purely to hear Stu or Bladey let loose with a volley of obsceneties through the headset) !!!!

there is a guide online about replacing the x clamps, and disconnecting the internal fan briefly to allow the dry solder joints to re-make.

mine has been done twice and it's fine.

you could always attempt the towel trick although this is only short term fix as you don't replace the clamps.

most common fault is due to the x clamps flexing with heat soak and distorting the board which causes the solder joints to break.

guide here: http://rbjtech.bulldoghome.com/pages/rb ... XClamp.htm

for towel trick theres some clips on youtube, search 3 red lights of death (i think)

mine started freezing up randomly, then fine for ages, then the day i got GTA4 it died :( ok now though :)

Bad luck mate - back to MS again then. You know what I think about DIY repairs when you've got the warranty to make use of.

I bought an Elite a while back and it's far better then my old one, (slightly) quieter, needs less power, and is totally stable - it's not hung or come up with the "can't read disc" error once. Recommended if you've not been put off Xboxes by now!

I'm selling my old one and getting a PS3 as well though...

Cheers,
Alex

Cheers for the info chaps, I am going to go the MS support route as the guid above just looks a bit too scary !!!!

Alex, I have a ps3 also.....you'll find going from an xbox there are great things (no noise !!!, blu ray out the box etc) and there are frankly shocking things (the whole online interface is absolutely awful compared to the xbox).

Will probably end up flogging the xbox at some point but there are still some great games on it and at the moment no difference between them, in most cases the 360 is better (check the graphics comparison on gamespot.com) !!!
