With a bit of luck Ben it should do it all. :D:D:D

If you use wrap it still gets wet/soaked and moisture will always find it's way to the metal. That's not so good if you are running a mild steel exhaust/headers as it they get rusty and rot eventually, but i suppose if you had a mild steel system the coating would stop any rusting as once it's coated it should be there forever barring any stone chips/scrapes which you should be able to touch up periodically. That would make your mild steel exhaust system last a lot longer.

Being stainless steel though and apart from discolouration from heat i would hope my system lasts for ever anyway, and the coating will be an additional barrier against any corrosion/oxidisation.

If this stuff genuinely does what it says on the tin i will go into business (as a sideline) prepping and coating exhausts. I've been in recruitmenmt for over 20yrs and i would love a change of scenery that gets me out of this computer chair, off my computer and into the fresh air.

It's just such a messy business though prepping them due to all the Alu Oxide you get covered in and i can confirm this stuff is so fine it gets into every nook and cranny of your body!!

The spraying is the nice bit though, plus it smells good :wack:

Exhaust

Post by Fast Eddy »

Well mate, i don't really get the fresh air thing with all the dust, crap and solvents going on. I can see the pleasure in seeing the end result though.
Is this coating just to protect the exhaust or is it a heat barrier too like the ceramic coatings? Looks great.
Well you may as well give up you normal job as you seem to spend most of the day playing with your car anyway

Thanks Eddy ;)

Yes, this is the full cojones proper Ceramic coating as used by the Pro's on all sorts of racing machinery exhausts and headers :D Seeing the end result is well worth the mess and faffing around.

I quite enjoyed the spraying bit and wearing a breathing mask was fine as i am used to it being a diver ;) It's just the prepping bit that's really messy and it takes longer to prep than it does to spray.

It's just really nice working outside and in the sun, god knows we haven't seen much sun this year. My old bones were really glad to get some infra red and the last 3 days in the sun have done me the power of good. :D

Unfortunately i am riddled with arthritis and have to take different pills to keep the pain and inflammation at bay so not having to take so many pills and letting the sun sort me out me is much better. Hence one of the reasons i want to leave the UK and head back to Spain sooner than later.

Another hot one today in the garage!! :D The car is just about there. Got everything plumbed in except the rad and Power Steering, that's a quickie job in the morning.

Remember i mentioned the fuel gauge reading empty....not any more :D:D
As soon as the engine wiring loom was plugged into the engine bay loom my old ECU came to life as well as the fuel gauge. I was right when i said the ECU has an effect on the gauge and the ECU won't come into life until that engine loom is plugged in so that's one less worry ;)

My next problem is the engine won't start because my immobiliser fob won't work the alarm. I've tried my normal fob and the spare i have. Neither will work so it has to be something in the wiring i think. Took part of the dash apart so see if all the wires are connected properly and i can't see anything amiss so i am a bit lost for more ideas at the moment.

Again it could be that the immobiliser fob won't communicate with the car until the ECU is syncd up, but baring in mind it's my old ECU i am using i would have said it was already syncd up so the fob should work. It's all a bit confusing to say the least and for the first time during this project i think will need professional hands-on help :(

I was determinsed to get this one sorted by myself. Oh well never mind :)

I am just a gnats doodaa away from having the car running so i can get it MOT'd and taxed but there is always something at the last couple of hurdles to put a spanner in the works

I'll make some phone calls tomorrow and see what i can get sorted

Keep on moving :thumb:
