Crashed on way home tonight

Post by Andy916 »

Absolutely gutted ... I had a crash on way home tonight. Car a mess but noone hurt.

Going along the twisty back-road approaching my village, as per usual, I see a car emerging from a gravel track to the right, already part-way into the road. Curve of the road and hedge is such that the emerging car can't actually see whether road is clear until part-way out. Braked full-hard in straight line, heading for left verge intending to avoid emerging car. Other car is 3/4 of way into the road at point of glancing impact, which veers me up onto banked verge (felt like about 45 degrees) and back down onto road again. Front driver's side wing, bumper, bonnet edge trashed. Door mirror snapped off, slight gouge on pillar and wheel mangled. Other car has its front pushed in where I glanced across it.

After exchanging details and talking to the witness who was following me (I think), I limped the car home. Went back there with Lucy and took photos. Skid marks tell a clear story.

Road is 60mph limit, just wide enough for 2 cars.

First insurance claim in 27yrs of driving, I wonder how it's going to go...

Andy

Gutted mate hope the claim goes smoothly.

Had a luck escape on my bike on sunday some fool in a mini didn't brake and used the KA that had stopped instead putting the KA in the opposite lane causing it to have a head-on with a volvo 2 seconds earlier and it would have been me not the KA.

Two things to bear in mind with this and any accident Andy

one- no one was hurt

two- you had moments to do what you felt was best in that split second. Hindsight and judgement now do little to help you. They can only serve to make you a better driver in the future.

27 years without a knock is very impressive. I imagine that there are very few of us that could boast a statistic like that.

I'm glad that you and the other people are Ok physically. That really is all that is important.

Best of luck mate.

Sorry to hear this Andy,

At least everyone is ok. Cars are repairable. I'll keep finders crossed on the insurance front.

Highway insurance, through Keith Michaels (Gary - Moley WRX). TPFT which I've always had when my car's been worth <

Blimey Andy, that is bad news but it could have been lots worse and no-one's injured.

If you need any bits, other than body work, I have some front end stuff.
