I thought that engine didn't have AVCS?

When you popped the clutch alignment spline round i showed you the engine. It's an STi V.8 engine, and it has AVCS.

At the time you said that you thought it only has AVCS on the inlet valves, and not on the outlet valves as per later models. I've looked on the workshop manual and it has the AVCS on inlet valves only. :D

All this Kakumei kit including the center pipe i thought was cracking good value for money and i would buy Kakumei again, although not sure i would use the same seller. Next time i'll maybe go direct to Kakumei and save myself a large chunk of dosh even with UK duty on top!! They have warehouses in USA and Taiwan and from my recent experience they probably take up to 3wks to deliver to your door.

What a shame i'm going to coat them

Started installing the new loom.

Everything looks to be pretty spot on except the connector from the gearbox to the connector on the loom which was different due to the fact it connects to a 6spd box not 5spd, so i had to cut the connector off my old loom and solder it onto the new one. Wires are excatly the same colour so it's purely down to connector shape.

So much for trying not to hack into my old loom :(

Anyhow....we're on out way!!! :D:D:D

:D

Apparently the only difference between these and the original GT Spec GenII Headers is the name.

Same factory, same tubing, same angle mandrel bends, same headers but different branding, that's it!!

Should release plenty of power with the rest of the exhaust system, more mid range and top end, worth about 30 or 40 BHP, and that's without mapping. Add to that the Walbro fuel pump, fuel pressure reg, Prodrive BCS and some mapping and we should be looking at the thick end of 350-360 bhp.

To be confirmed by Dyno sheet when Zen Performance finally get their rolling road installed and sorted otherwise i'll be taking a trip over to sunny Norfolk or Surrey for some power runs :D

Well...

Wiring finally finished today, Hoofudgingray!! I can honestly say doing the wiring was the crapiest bit of this project so far!!

Unfortunately due to some of the STi v.7 connectors being different and having a couple of spare connectors that i don't use being available it has taken me longer than expected. Many references back to the wiring diagrams in the workshop manual and tracing wires on my old loom were neccessary but time consuming. You really wouldn't recognise my old loom now as it's been properly hacked.

I managed to get the rear wash wipe working and the headlamp leveller wired in. That doesn't work yet, obviously i've connected a wire/s wrongly somewhere so i can come back to that later on as it's not important right now and I really need to press on and get cracking.

All of the usual car functions are working ok like head and fog lights, indicators, central locking off the key in the lock, brake lights, interiror lighting, horn!! etc...etc....

Only unusual thing so far is the fuel guage is reading empty and the empty light is on but i know for a fact there is about 3/4 of a tank full of fuel. I think it's because the fuel sender unit and pump are linked into the ECU, and the ECU is dead until it's sync into the immobiliser. When the ECU is awake and running properly it should read true. I couldn't even read the ECU with my laptop via the OBDII connector so i'll have to wait until it's sync'd.

I managed to reinstall front facia and center console steering wheel and all ancilliaries so it looks a bit more like a car but have left the carpet, glove box, ECU cover plate and seats out for the moment in case i have to take it all apart again if there's a problem.

Tomorrows job is get the car up in the air, remove the old exhaust and sort the new exhaust out with ceramic coating ready for fitting. Pictures to follow on that.

I just have to finish off the engine and fit the clutch, chuck my new sparks in and fit the new headers, and and it's ready for reinstall on Monday.

By christ this is hard work, enjoyable though and i have learned a lot about my car.

No.1 rulle is never ever do re-wiring!!! :D

More to follow soon........ :thumb:

I've gone as far as i can with the car now. It's had new sparks and the clutch and brand new cover is on so i had a day off today as i felt cream crackered and it being such a lovely day i didn't want to spend it in the garage.

The pipe running out of the back of my TSL backbox is a 2 5/8" ID pipe and the flange is a standard Subaru fit. My Kakumei 3" ID center pipe has a much bigger flange and doesn't fit by a long way so i have a bit of a problem, and i don't want to sell my backbox and buy another different make as i love the sound this one makes so.......

After much fruitless internet searching for a flange adapter and a BP Wanted post for a fix/advice i have decided to take my TSL backbox to a local custom exhaust manufacturer to have the flange removed and a bigger one welded on so it fits my Kakumei center pipe.

This is the only way i could see this working out and ultimately the simplest most logical and cost effective fix i could come up with. If someone knows of a better way around this prob i'm all ears!!

We'll see what happens.....

Tomorrow we're promised great weather so i'm going to start shotblasting the headers, uppipe and downpipe ready for coating.

I can taste the dust already....mmmmmm Aluminium Oxide...loverly!! :-#
