Oh well...you live and learn. That's my image of big bhp drift cars smoking tyres at over 100mph gone down the pan. I thought they were fire breathing monsters...instead they're all tea totle
Buggers cancelled my op just a couple of days before it was due. Inconsiderate barstewards!!

Dunk

Jasons comment was regards to the title of the topic

ScoobieWRX

As far as I know a lot of the top EDC cars all produce way over 500bhp at the flywheel. To give you an idea Mark Luney's SVA 350z produces over 600 lb ft torque with bhp to match, Bon Bon's Chaser is less torque but similar power........Brett Castles is powerful, even Bladeys is reckoned to be a bit 'lairy' but we are yet to get decent dyno figures for that.

Generalising massively, the cars in Japan and the US are, as a rule, higher powered, simply because they have had far more spent on them.

The "bollox" comment comes from the fact that you either you dont know much about rally car engines or you were purposely not comparing apples with apples.

Because of the 32mm restrictor rally engines make VAST amounts of power low down using real antilag (rather than simple fuel dump as per most ecu's) and EGR systems. They can easily see over 1bar boost whilst the car is not under load and typically have over 500lb/ft of torque low down so that by 5500-6000rpm its all over and they have already changed up, so the 300-320bhp "power limit" is simply a limit on a peak number and has almost no relevence to what we are talking about other than power delivery, which is pretty savage and aimed towards super short geared cars. I agree that they're quicker on tarmac than alot of other machinery but thats more the rest of the package and driver than the fact they have theoretically less outright power than say the RCDevelopments Evo.

The only really really high spec cars in TA are the Roger Clarke car and the one Tappy was driving whose builder escapes me this second. But then they probably have more money that two of the other "high end cars" invested in them and probably 4 times as much as Apex/Gary/Ron kiddell etc.

Apologies to all those who think im a :jerk: :jerk: but I just tell it how it is, admittedly from my perspective but I try to be objective where possible and for me I dont think this discussion will prove anything other than Ross has a powerful car and obviously feels its as much as he would want to drive, Garys car is more setup and possibly he has more track time in it and hence perhaps is able to get more out of it, and lots of other people havent owned or driven cars that fast or that hard anyways so its kind of not within their experience envelope to comprehend. Thats not to say Im experienced either, just that I know what I do with my few ponies and know what could be done with more and I possibly have more faith in a drivers ability to control these things with practice than maybe some others here. Most powerful drift car I know of in the UK is probably SVAs 350z with circa 600bhp and certainly it makes a mess of 888's in something obscene like 285 width, bons chaser is around 550bhp, depending on if you believe them or not theres a couple of others like Julians old skyline with the RB30 that are also up there with 550-600bhp and of course there was the old Soarer which was 580bhp from memory. I know Bretts is probably the thick side of 500 now and they even ran a 3037 and race gas for closer to 600 than 500 but felt there wasnt much point.

IF/WHEN the Stagea is done I'll be happy to explore what 1300bhp+ is like with anyone thats interested !! :D :D

Bladey, i do enjoy reading your posts because you speak with authority when you're not dissing others with your colourful language but i do prefer to hear it like it is :D

The :jerk: comment is purely tongue in cheek, i have a lot of respect for you as i do many others on BP :notworthy:

I would love a pax lap in a 1300bhp monster. Just tell me when and where as wild horses couldn't stop me going for that one!! ;)
