well ive just spent the last 5 hours in the workshop doing the following

removing coilovers, rear antiroll bar, front hubs
correctly spaced and loctited the new calipers
fit my old suspension, adjustable rear antirollbar and two front hubs.

doesnt sound much, but it was bloody hard work on my own

time for bed now :)

forgot to mention, my 3" exhaust system turned up yesterday, but the back box has a dent in the tailpipe meaning i cant fit the baffle.

do i either send it back to be swopped, or fix it myself? i'll let you decide ;)

well the engine is now sitting nicely in the car, all mounted and braced in position. i do need to swop the upper engine mount for my original one, as this has an additional head brace to prevent the head cracking.

Image

the previous exhaust had burnt away the rustproofing on the centre tunnel, so i spent a productive 30 minutes today rubbing the surface rust off and applying lots of waxoyl to it :)

the loom and exhaust will be fitted tomorrow, then all i need is for the motec to turn up and i should be able to start it up.
unfortunately im having a new TH3 wheel made for me at compomotive and that wont be here for 3 weeks. i suppose its just as well that GTA4 is released soon ;)

heres a totally random pic, me being evil to my nephew

nearly done!

Post by andycaca »

things are going quite nicely. i need a 185 dizzie as mine wont fit on the loom, but i have sourced one to be fitted next week. also ordered a brand new wheel from compomotive so i will have 4 wheels soon! just need to find some 215/35/17 tyres now...

picture time!

Image
how it looked this morning, check out the arch clearances, especially the rear...

Image
yep, its touching. hence the need for small profile tyres as mentioned above.

Image
on its previous trackday outing, high sidewall competition rubber tore the arch apart. this needs rebuilding. the wheel in this picture is the same rolling radius as the new 17's will be with the low profile tyres - so no problems touching the body.

Image
this wing needs a bit of TLC, infact they all do!

Image
the engine is in, just final bits need tidying up.

Image
supra turbo and aussie 3" downpipe. ive just fitted a full stainless 3" system so this should allow a lot more ponies than the previous 300bhp.

Image
the tailpipe is touching on the rear bumper, so that needs to come off and be shaped to fit. previous exhaust was 2.25" with 4" exit, this one is 3" with 5" exit. why they cant fit a 3" exhaust with a 3" tip is beyond me :(

Image
another pic of the touching exhaust, not very exciting. it is very shiny tho!

Image
the bumper has just been refitted after grinding away the offending material to give the exhaust a little clearance.

Image
front bumper off and FMIC resting in place. i have had to remove the support bracketry from the original bumper and replace it with the "customised" version from the other car. otherwise that intercooler core just would not fit in place.

Image
now i have junked the AFM, the intake needs lengthening a little. although the air filter isnt quite touching the fan, it is very close and will be sucking in hot air straight off the radiator.

meanwhile...next door in the other workshop - lets go see what alex is up to.
Image
hmm, a pile of bits. what can the matter be? dont say he's broken his car AGAIN??!?!!

Image
that looks like quite serious work. alex making a hasty getaway :)

Image
just as my own car is being resurrected, the green puke mobile dies. we think the gearbox has eaten itself, again. luckily a 3rd gearbox is on the way and should be here this friday. shame i wont be here to help! ;)

Image
intercooler and modified bumper refitted. i am in two minds as to chop additional holes in the bumper skin to allow air to hit the top of the FMIC. i guess i will see what intake temps the motec is seeing before doing anything too hasty.

i just came home for lunch, hence this post :)
when i return, the powersteering cooler will be refitted, along with the FMIC pipework and whatever other little bits i find in the shed. the car really is THAT close to being done :)

the first outing will be a while yet. it still needs more work doing, not to mention an ecu, wheel and tyres to turn up :) but most of the hard work is done now.

this afternoon i fitted all the FMIC pipework, extended the air intake so its not sucking hot air off the radiator and plumbed in the dump valve.
Image

yeah baby, yeah. its starting to look like a completed car now!
Image

then came the rust...both rear sills infront of the wheels have rusted to buggery
Image

Image
the good news is i can just chop out the rotten metal, bend up a new sill and then weld it in :)

i managed to restore power to the car and got the warning lights working.
Image

thats enough for today, tomorrow i shall be fixing the sunroof :)

ive now got everything i need to finish the car, but i cant be bothered at the mo because im too busy playing GTA4 :)

tomorrow i will think about doing some work...like plugging the motec in, welding the oil cooler brackets and firing her up. all being well there will be the sweet sound of launch control resonating throughout the workshop tomorrow night :)

Did you manage to get a Wheel sorted from Compomotive ????

I thought you were planning on making it to Barkston Heath to compete in the Toyota Srint Series this weekend, must have had my wires crosseed. :?

Progress looks really good & lokk forward to seing it at some events soon... you not tempted to come join me in the Japanese Intermarque Sprint Championship as i could do with some GT4's buddies.
Gooowan ya' will
