flourescent MY00 RS250

Post by andycaca »

please forgive me for posting this up, i know its not a car but it does have a very powerful japanese engine and its not exactly common (kinda in keeping with my taste in cars!). i used to own the original shape RS250 whilst at uni a few years ago and only sold it to appease the then-girlfriend (in hindsight i should have sold the bitch ;)).
some statistics:
about 65bhp at the rear wheel
140kgs ready to rock (so about 220kg with me on it)
no revlimiter, instead, you tell the bike where you want the shift light to come on
fully (comp/rebound/preload) adjustable suspension front and rear
MASSIVE brakes!
the finest chassis ever to grace a roadgoing bike

oh, and its a 2-strokes which means its totally bonkers. its the nearest thing to having a turbo charged bike :)
in a straight line, its no faster than my celica and it cant corner as hard, but it is a lot of fun to hoon about on. it remains to be seen how well it copes with snetterton, although i hope to stuff it up the inside of some larger bikes :)

now on with with pictures

This is its winter habitat, in dry storage at a secret location :) petrol cock is turned to "off" ;)
Image

sensible daily transport in the background, bonkers weekend/track bike in foreground
Image

warning! danger! etc! never a truer word said :)
Image

the most amazing brakes on a roadbike, ever. twin 4-pot brembo calipers on 298mm floating discs
Image

is this not beautiful? aluminium banana-shaped swingarm with carbon fibre silencers
Image

pirelli supercorse rear tyre
Image

and the same up front...
Image

that blue adjuster is for rebound tuning of the front shocks
Image

the large silver nut is for preload adjustment
Image

and finally, the blue adjuster is for compression tuning.
Image

twiddle the knob for harder/softer compression damping on the rear
Image

rear shock again. needs some stainless jubilee clips!
Image

by using a large C-spanner, the ride height can be adjusted
Image

straight from the starship enterprise, it even has a laptimer with 30 something memory :)
Image

revving the engine a little when its slightly warm. the smell is soooo nice :)

thanks for looking :) the bike will be coming to a trackday or three next year

Sexual 8) Great work Andy. Never apologise for posting stuff like that (unless the bike isn't yours, in which case you'll get a slap when I see you next :P )

How long have you had this one? Was the ex-girlfriend the one in your avatar or is that the replacement? Either way the bike looks quicker ;) :thumb:

hehe stu :)
i bought it for my birthday last month (GT4 was a previous birthday present, as was xbox 360 last year)!
girl in my pic is current lady friend, i dont have any pics of the ex as i burnt/deleted them all when i moved out of the scum infested ratpile that is london :)

ive only ridden about 10 miles on it because ive now tucked it up for winter. it will be getting a rebuild when i come back because its done nearly 9000miles now and it doesnt feel as quick as my old one (tho could be deceptive with the remapped ecu compared to old)

Very nice, I love the 2 strokes 8)

Looking at the video is it running on one cylinder? (If its a twin?)

Might explain why it doesnt seem as quick as you old one :?

Or is it like a valve to run the pipe at full chat?

What a lovley looking bike!!
I know these bikes very well as my uncle used to race one in supersport 400 championship a few years ago and it was sat in my shed being rebuilt all the time. It could be raced against 400cc 4 strokes as it was a 250cc 2 stroke you see. I have a collection of seized pistons rods and bores etc which would scare you!!
Look after that bike she is a beaty and very rare to see one on the roads.

The race bike is sat in a relative's shed at the moment just being started up and kept alive, sadly it is no longer used for racing but would make an awesome track bike!

Nice one. Last summer I seriously considered swapping the 916 for one of these. It'll be at its best on a twistier circuit than Snetterton, or alternatively with a group of mates all on 250s.

First 2-stroke I rode on track was an RGV250 at a club race at Brands, and I spent the next 3 yrs racing 250's as a result (TZR's). Second-most fun bike I ever rode on a circuit was an RGV on slicks at Cadwell - awesome.

Keep thinking I'd like to get another 2-stroke but just don't do the bike trackdays these days to justify it!

Indeed, cornering is what makes these small bikes so much fun.

In fact i would say you can actually have a lot more fun on something like this, that a big superbike.
Other than off road, the 'best' bike I owned was a little RVF400 NC35
